On 7, May, 1948, the USA demanded of Ben Gurion to postpone the declaration of the State of Israel for 3 months. On 12, May, 1948, Ben Gurion called the meeting of the Jewish leaders in Erets Israel. The discussion lasted 13 hours. By the majority of votes- 6 against 4- the America ultimatum was rejected. On 14, Mqy, 1948, Ben Gurion declared the creation of the State of Israel. Americans fulfilled their promise and declared the embargo on arms sales to the Middle East. But Great Britain did not join the embargo and was actively selling arms to Arabs. Israel was left unarmed before the regular armies of the 5 Arab states, and only the success of the arms deal with the Soviet Union (via Czechoslovakia) permitted the Israelis to win in the War of Independence. But if not for the treacherous politics of the USA and Great Britain, thousands of Jews would stay alive.
