Would I be able to become a citizen of Israel?

Israel: After you become a naturalized citizen are you allowed to leave the country?

  • Hypothetically speaking, what if I lived in Israel for 5 years, lived there for a few few years after that, moved to my native country for whatever reason but still held my Israeli citizenship - is that even possible? Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

No problem. It's not the same as it was in the USA about 100 years ago, when a naturalized citizen or even a native born USA citizen living abroad had to return every few years to keep up their citizenship. In fact, and unfortunately, there are some Americans who come to Israel and become citizens, then returning to the USA. They show up every election to influence the outcome. This made big news in the 1999 election for prime minster.

Technically, it should be, though I'm unaware of any specifics that might prohibit this. Though, most likely, it should be possible.
