How would you describe Zionism?

  • Please describe anything you know about Zionism!? Thank you, Sincerely, Ms. Miche ; })

  • Answer:

Zionism is an international political movement that originally supported the reestablishment of a homeland for the Jewish People in Palestine (Hebrew: Eretz Yisra'el, “the Land of Israel”), and continues primarily as support for the modern state of Israel. Although its origins are earlier, the movement was formally established by the Austro-Hungarian journalist Theodor Herzl in the late 19th century. The movement was eventually successful in establishing Israel in 1948, as the world's first and only modern Jewish State. Described as a "diaspora nationalism,"its proponents regard it as a national liberation movement whose aim is the self-determination of the Jewish people. While Zionism is based in part upon religious tradition linking the Jewish people to the Land of Israel, where the concept of Jewish nationhood is thought to have first evolved somewhere between 1200 BCE and the late Second Temple era (i.e. up to 70 CE), the modern movement was mainly secular, beginning largely as a response by European Jewry to antisemitism across Europe. It constituted a branch of the broader phenomenon of modern nationalism. At first one of several Jewish political movements offering alternative responses to the position of Jews in Europe, Zionism gradually gained more support, and after the Holocaust became the dominant Jewish political movement.

In the west for ex. we don't hold prisoners on no charge. We don't keep them for months waiting for a verdict. We don't torture them in Jail. We don't have minors in adult prisons for throwing stones. We don't just break down someones home, or destroy their livelihood because I feel I deserve it more than another (the settlers I speak about). The list goes on and on, and its really hard to see these things happening and then be told that Zion is about peace. I hope you understand me, as I am trying to understand you. Peace!

Very comparable to National Socialism: the identification of ethnicity and territory (blud und soil) and the conflation of government and nation. Zionism argues against the multiethnic democracy and on behalf on ethnic-based nationalism of a very aggressive and military character. Germany for the Germans, screamed by the late German Fuerher. Isreal for the Isrealis shreik the jews. I see no difference. As to you,I would regard you as a Fascist collaborator.

The most recent issue of 'Manna', magazine produced by the UK Movement for Reform Judaism, has an article about Zionism from Rabbi Michael Schwartz, who is a member of Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR). I'll quote a few bits from the article. "The rabbis of RHR replant Palestinians' olive trees when they are destroyed by marauding settlers, and coordinate with the Israel Defence Forces to protect Palestinian farmers and their families while guaranteeing them access to their agricultural lands. RHR works to prevent administrative demolitions of Palestinians' homes in East Jerusalem and launches appeals in the Israeli High Court on instances of rights violations. When I conclude, proudly, that what the rabbis of RHR do, we do precisely because we are rabbis, Israelis, and deeply committed Zionists, the question 'What do you mean, you're a Zionist!' flashes like the sudden colour of fever in a child's cheeks." "Working for the physical, spiritual, and moral security of Israel is today's Zionist task. Human rights issues are a particularly crucial opportunity to engage positively with Israel and Judaism in responding to this challenge. By insisting on Israel's responsibility as a 'duty bearer' to uphold universal human rights, we strengthen our own demands to those same rights as 'rights holders'" "Israel's survival as the Jewish State, threatened on so many fronts, is too precious and too embattled to avoid the necessity of reconciling universal human rights values and laws with Zionism and Judaism. Both practically and theologically, working for human rights may be the most essential Zionist activity we Jews can do today." EDIT: Wow, look at all those thumbs downs for human rights!!
