What's the average salary for a Westerner in Egypt?

  • Hi there, I'm planning on moving to Egypt in Dec, and will be there for at least a year. I'll need to get a job, and am hoping to find work in the tourist industry (at a Scuba Dive company working in reception, for example) or just doing general office work. I'm a trained graphic designer/illustrator, so that would be even better, but I figure I'll start somewhere lower on the ladder and work my way into something more in my field once I'm settled. Anyway, I'm a bit worried about what kind of salary I'll end up being offered. Anyone know what the average salary is for a Westerner (as I've heard they're paid differently than Egyptians) for reception/office work and/or graphic design? Thanks for your help! Sarah

    it depends on your job from maybe 1-10k a month if you are fluent in english [ofcourse] take an english course and teach english to school children go to a private school and apply, and they will pay you big money [some even pay with $] if your first language is english

It depends on the place and the city where your gonna work at.. I work in the tourism field and I can tell you that westerners are much luckier then egyptians in finding jobs and in the rate of salaries here.. for example a westerner recieptionst willnt take less than 500$ dollars a month as a minimum (in some cities like Sharm el sheikh it may jump to higher than 1000$ a month),while an egyptian employee would get less than that 200$.. most of companies like to hire westerner Employees to say "here we got an american/european experiences!" anyway Its great to pay well your employees..but their should be some equality between the forigener and the local employees..and this is the point.. In this era,Only foriegners win in egypt..!
