What jobs are in demand?

Is there a demand for Cisco (IT) jobs in Cairo? Who should we contact? What is a good salary to live in Egypt?

  • We are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment to buy in a very, very nice and posh area of Cairo. We had a look and Garden City seems quite nice. Please can you recommed what other areas are very, very nice and posh? Also, could you tell me, how we can get residency visa or work permit as we want to live in Caori? My husband has a Cisco (CCNA) and COMPTIA A+ qualifications, can you tell me is there a demand for IT jobs in Egypt/Cairo? Or please could you tell me who or where we could contact regarding jobs? Could you tell me what is the average salary that you need to live comfortably in Egypt/Cairo? (In Egyptian Pounds) We want to move in July 2007, are there any good NEW apartments being built? We also will want to buy a car, can you recommend a good website, so we can have a look or can you recommend anyone? Also, my husband and I can speak English fluently, can we get by with English in a job in Egypt?

  • Answer:

i agree with no body and female 21, except for the salary part, because u must be aware that renting a flat alone may cost u around at least 1500 EGP (egyptian pounds) or more And actually i don't think 2000 EGP (aside from the 1500 EGP of the rent) per month is enough for living here...i mean u will live of course no problem, but it will not be easy try to get a flat near from ur work, specially if u wont get a car, buses will not be that comfortable there is too much IT work in egypt nowadays, but CCNA will not be enough, u will need more certificates, but ofcourse if u have good practical experience, then u r fine goodluck

I am going to try to answer some of the things that you want, not all , according to what I know. Considering the apartment, you can find as good as what you can afford. Apartments can be very luxurious, and prices can be up to millions. So it very much depends on what you want to pay. There are many good places ; like Maadi, Garden city, Kornish El Nil.It depends on where you are going to work. You don't want to live far from your workplace and have to commute everyday in a CROWDED city like Cairo. Your husband's cerificates are fine , but without experience and creativity he won't go any where. There are many people who have the same certificates, what is going to stand him out is his ability to present something new, but there are places that will sure be willing to give him a chance. Cars are available in Egypt. They are very expensive. More expensive than what they are in America. You should try to bring your own car. You are going to pay a lot in customs but it is going to be worth it.You should try to ask about how much money you are going to pay. It depends on the year of making and the model. There is a newspaper that offers a free service in telling people how much they will pay in customs "www.alahram.org" The only good thing about buying cars here in Egypt is that you don't have to bargain with the car dealer, unlike what you have to do with everything else. The prices are fixed and you won't be fooled. As for the average salary , you can live well on 2000 Egyptian pounds. One dollar equals 5.73. Egyptian pounds. Ofcourse you have to be wise about it , but this amount of money will do."You may want to check again on this part because I don't live in Cairo. I live in another city. An estimate given by one of the Cairians will be better". As for the language part. You didn't mention if you were a native speaker. If you speak fluently as you say "with no foreign accent " you can get a job in teaching in any of the International Language schools. They would be happy to hire you and you don't have to have teaching certificates because they appreciate the existence of foreigners in teaching language. Have fun and feel free to ask more. P.S "Give the question some time to be answered . Like a few days. There are very good people here who will answer your question , even better than what I did , but we are few . If you give them some time you will have plenty of answers in 2 or 3 days the most.

there IS a demand for Cisco.. don't worry! and the language skills will help u a lot too.. average sallary i think would be around 2000 .. but u wont lead a luxurious life or anything! this will get u by! Garden City is nice, but parking there is a nightmare! there's absolutely no place to park ur car!!! other nice places would be zamalek and maadi.. plenty of foreigners, nice nile view, lots of good coffee shops..
