What are the major subjects in accountancy?

Information on IGCSE (Egypt) and subjects to choose?

  • Hey everyone :) I'm realllly looking for the most recent information about IGCSE, since my first year will be this year, and most people I could ask don't recognize that the system changes every year -.- for example, I need to know the number of subjects - OL and AL/AS - the subjects I should choose since I want to attend medical school (Ps : I'm not good at memorizing AT ALL :/ ) and since there are No private medical colleges in Egypt, I'll have to study in an ordinary college. So, what's required for attending an ordinary medical college (for example : grades, OL and AS/AL subjects)...And also, the chances available for me to attend an ordinary college, because I know IG students have a percentage their or something like that. I've somehow chosen some basic OL subjects , like English (not sure literature or language or what) , mathematics, biology, chemistry, arabic (as recommended to me, some help on this too ,please) . Now, I have 3 OL subjects required (considering OL subjects should be 8 subjects) and of course Biology AS, this leaves 1 AS? (also considering they should be 2, or 1 AL, right?) okay, now, this leaves me with a total 3 OL , 1 AS ( or maybe i could change those into 1 AL, but which would be better, 2 AS or 1 AL?) I'm not a big fan of physics, that's why I thought I'd leave it out of my consideration, But i wanted to know if it depends on memorizing? if not, maybe i would consider studying it, at least it's better than french! And regarding Chemistry as an AS subject, is it difficult to study? I LOOOOVVVE chemistry too, well, at least if I'll have to choose between it and physics, but i was thinking of Math as an AS subject too because I think I'm good at maths too. so i would like any suggestions for those subjects, from your experience :) Also, i heard that the AS and AL subjects maba2ush beyetdafu lel magmu3, only to pass, is this right? so then there will be no point in taking more AS subjects (if i'm allowed to take more already) Yes, I know, many information required :$ but anyway, I'd be reeeeeeallly grateful for your help. Thanks, and tell me if you need any additional information, although i think you won't need any EXTRA additional information :P

  • Answer:

Rules may change from year to year. I sugget you one of the following actions to get up-to-date information: 1- Contact the British Council in Egypt, you may get their number by calling 140 Directory 2- Check their web site for information or 3- Look for one of the schools which teach GCSE in your city and get their new year booklet ( Santa Fatima is one but not necessarily the best)

For information about applying to a public medical school or any other public faculty: http://tansik.egypt.gov.eg/fapplication/fdalil/Index.aspx The grades required for medical school, just do your best to get straight A*s, and don't worry it's possible, since you can always re-sit any subject. English as a second language is good, and most students take it. However, some students prefer English literature, so it's your call here. You can Ask your English teacher for more information about both subjects. Regarding Arabic as a first language, it's a great subject and it's very easy to get an A* in it, especially if you took it Edexcel not Cambridge. You're gonna love both English and Arabic O.Ls if you're really into writing articles and stories. Anyway, both subjects need you to have good vocabulary, and you could achieve that by reading newspapers, magazines, books, etc.. I think 1 A.L is better than 2 A.S, but it depends on the new rules on calculating your final grade, which differ from year to year. You'll find how to calculate your grade in the link above. As for physics O.L, trust me it's very easy to get an A* in it, and it doesn't have much memorizing in it. Math A.S is good, and most students byfadalooh 3an el chemistry, but since you really love chemistry, and add to that you want to go to a med school, then definitely go for chemistry. Moreover, chemistry O.L is NOT enough, it's easier than that of Thanwya Amma. So it's preferable to take chemistry A.S (or even A.L). (dah if you're 100% sure you want medical school, ) You can email me if you needed any help. :)
