Returning a watch to the seller(Bought in Bahrain Duty Free shop), Any customs duty to be paid for this?
-
Hi, I am from Malaysia. I visited Bahrain last week for an official meeting and on my way back to Malaysia, I bought a watch in the airport (Bahrain Duty Free shop). But when I compare the price in Malaysia, it is a lot cheaper here in Malaysia and the difference is substantial. So, I want to return this to the seller and I spoke to them over phone. They are willing to refund my money and asking me to send the watch through courier but they are saying I may have to pay the customs duty to clear my courier at Manama customs. Since, this is not an import item from Malaysia and I am just returning the watch that I bought in Bahrain Airport last week. So, do I need to pay any customs duty for clearance? I have the original receipt also with me that I can send as a proof of purchase. Appreciate reliable answers from the community (if required, please check with FedEx office in Manama on the procedures / regulation before answering this question). Thanks in advance.

Answer:
No you do not have to. Anyways, the dealer is kind to accept returning your money, as most shops do not accept that. You may be asked to pay for the courier charges. Also, customs charges may not be a big amount, of course first you need to think of it against the price of the watch itself, then you can decide if it is worth returning. The best thing is to return it by hand, if you are coming to Bahrain soon, or otherwise maybe a friend or a colleague that is visiting Bahrain soon? Face to face processes usually are much easier in the Middle East :D GOOD LUCK ------------------------------------ I just contacted FEDEX on +973-17334448, and they said there should not be any customs charges for the watch! You can contact them yourself and see! Maybe you need to call the dealer again and find out what is going on!
