What's a good skateboard for a beginner?

I'm I too old to learn to skateboard?

  • Hi I'm 20 years old and i want to learn to skateboard but is it just too old to learn. People say your too old to be skateboarding you got to start growing up etc, but not really that bothered as you only live once no need to really take notice of what people say. I picked up a skateboard when i was little but the interest wasn't big enough then. Anyway more to the question anyway, whats the best equipment as well for a beginner, boards etc, as i well built so is there a weight limit? Thanks

  • Answer:

no you're not too old, it does help if you start young, but you're never too old to learn i don't think brands mater that much, to be honest dude, but since your learning, i would suggest a helmet, and unless you are insanely obese, then i think you will be okay good luck dude =)

Its a comman misconception that you have to be young to take up skateboarding- while its easier to learn tricks as a child, it can still be fun, fit and enjoyable and, especially when you master the different tricks, it can be impressive to the ladies (Sounds like bull, but its true) First things first though, you're gonna want to join a local skatepark. My recommendation is to go to your local Vans with a skatepark and get a year long membership. Not only will you get discount on equipment, you also save a LOT of cash when it comes to actually skating around the park. Obviously you're gonna need a good board to start off with. Theres many to choose from, and you might be tempted to use a board just because it seems cool, or is used by "Pro skaters" in the Tony Hawks games. I would avoid this, instead I would go to your local skating shop and ask for their opinion. Don't be afriad to spend money cause it'll be worth it in the end. While I said you can never be too old to skateboard, its also true that its hard for "old dogs to learn new tricks". Its very embarressing when you go into the park for the first time failing to even ollie when theres 10 year olds zooming down halfpipes. In fact, you'll likely waste a LOT of cash going to the park just to teach yourself how to do tricks on your own. My advice is to get a guidebook, teaching you how to do tricks, preferably as fast as possible. Learning a trick under 10 weeks is VERY good. Again, these manuels are very hard to find, but I believe I've discovered the best out there. Its actually an e-book called "Secrets of Skateboarding" by a complete master known only as "The Underground Skater" (Well, his names Tony Waters, but the other name is far cooler). I wish I had bought this book when I had first started out, as it took me 6 MONTHS to actually learn a kickflip. Friends and you-tube arn't exactly a great help either. So definitly check this out, I even find it useful for those already talented as skaters. You can find the link to the book's page in my sources. Sorry for the long answer, but I'm only trying to help you out here. Like I said, skating can be a blast and you should definitly take it up. Good luck!

No, you're not too old. Especially considering that it's more of a solo thing. However, you should be ready to learn a bit slower than those whipper snappers around skate parks. Brands matter very little in skateboarding, and so do skill levels. I'll throw up some links and pretty much everything you will see is what the pros use. www.ccs.com www.skateamerica.com www.activemailorder.com One thing you want to be wary of is deck width. Narrow decks (7.25"-7.75") are lighter and flip easy, but have less area to stand on. This means that you will have a harder time just riding around and landing tricks. I prefer a wider deck about 8" for a simpler styles and large gaps. Good luck!

Started designing skateboard decks. head over to the library and check the skateboarding magizines or join a group on yahoo. you might even link up with some omy friends designer, boarder an alke www.zazzle.com/chaser12* I just joined skateboard moms, seen on national tv. They are on yahoo groups. just type in Skateboarding for the search option. Happy boarding!

You're never too old to learn anything. And you're not too heavy for a skateboard - most times you'll be standing on the wheels anyway, so they take the weight.
