Ace bandage/ankle help? Gymnastics injury.?
-
About a month, month and a half ago I go an ankle injury. It doesn't really hurt when I POINT my toes, but flex. This makes it really hard to land a round off or a back handspring in gymnastics, because as you land on the balls of your feet and bend your knees, your feet are flexing (going back towards your leg.) It really hurts, and it's happened to both ankles. When it gets bad, I just sit out for a couple minutes and rest it, then go back in. I tried using an ace bandage, but that doesn't prevent the kind of movement that hurts (foot moving back towards the leg). It's like it needs to be immobilized completely. And no I have not gone to the doctor, my parents won't take me. They think it will "heal over time," but I'm not going to sit out of gym for months because they won't take me. I think I'm going to a podiatrist (foot doctor) to get some sort of brace, but in the mean time, is there anything I can do to help my ankles? Thank you.

Answer:
ask your coach if they can tape your ankles, it puts a lot more support than just an ace bandage. or go to a sport medicine store for braces that support more. but using braces will weaken the ankles so find some ways to strengthen your ankle. like a balance board those help a lot on strengthening the ankles.

i had the same thing happen to me i asked my doctor and he told me this.... lean against the wall with your hands out on the wall legs behind you and put one leg further back until it streches your cafe and bottom of foot, do that alot, and wear heel supporters in you tennis shoes and keep wearing the ankle brace, after a while it should feel a little better

you will need to get some Physiotherapy on your ankles. the podiatrist does not do that. A P/T can do that for you but cannot diagnose exactly what the problem is A chiropractor can do the P/T and continue to monitor you and diagnose the problem for you. You do not need complete immobilization but you need a support brace It sounds like a very severe sprain even possibly a very small avulsion fracture deep in the middle of the ankle joint. this requires rest and therapy and bracing to support but not to immobilize the ankle joint. you are going to have to beef up your proteins and vitamins you will have to be off of training which involves the feet for about a month or two
