Would this be a good longboard to start out with?

What is the best size longboard to start with for a beginner?

  • I'm very good on ripstick and can skateboard decently. I've found 3 boards I like, one 36.5 inches, one 38 inches, and one 40 inches. I live in a somewhat hilly area but the beach I go to is completely flat. What should I start with?

  • Answer:

Ripstick abilities to don't transfer at all. I'm a really good longboarder, and can't ripstick to save my life. With that out of the way, longboard lengths only matter when comparing identical designs. If all three boards are exactly the same shape and setup, just different sizes, larger boards will be more stable, and better for bombing hills, while shorter boards turn sharper. What matters more is WHEELBASE. The distance between the trucks matters far more than the length of the board itself. My first board is about 40 inches long, BUT it only has a 23 inch wheelbase. If the boards are the same, get the 38 inch. that'll be a good mix of the smaller's handling and the larger's stability. Otherwise, do more research into the boards.
