How to do a back walkover ?

How do I do a back walkover?

  • Okay so I can already do a front walkover, cartwheel, handstand, back bend, round-off, somer sault, and splits, and I want to learn a back walkover. The thing is that everything on the internet that I look up and try doesn't work for me. So I need some good tips to learn this skill. And I'm starting gymnastics in the fall and I'm a girl. Please help, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you have a lot of the basic skills down which is good. The one thing that i did for a long time that got me no where is i would do more of a backbend, then pause, then attempt to kick over. But my coach finally taught me how to do it right and I'm glad she did! The trick is to start with one foot either slightly in the air (pointed of course) or have one foot slightly in front and have most of your weigh on the foot in back. then as you bend back try to bent for as close as your hands as you can because this will make your kicking distance shorter. Then try to push out your shoulders away from you. You should diffidently feel the pull in your armpits. and the key is when your learning it. Don't stop after you bend, and then kick over. You need to bend and kickover all in one motion. even if you don't make it anywhere close to all the way over, its better to start learning how to do it all in one motion. I couldn't even stop and make it over but when i started doing it all in one motion it finally clicked! Good luck at your gym! email me or something to say if you got your walkover! I hope i helped!
