because your feet are far to ******* stupid to do it

Step 1 Set your feet up like you would for an ollie. Step 2 Place the ball of your front foot toward the middle of the board and slightly below the front bolts. Step 3 Hit your tail as you would for an ollie, but instead of dragging your front foot up the board, drag it toward the side of the board with a flicking motion. The faster the flick, the faster the flip. It's all in the ankle. Step 4 Stay over the board as you are jumping and the board is flipping (it's important not to push down on the board once you're up so that it can continue to rise). Step 5 Let the board hit your back foot once it has flipped completely. This is called catching the flip. Your front foot should not be far behind in getting back on the board, but the back foot usually catches it first. This allows you to control the trick on the way down. Step 6 Land with your feet as close to the bolts as possible. Step 7 Do another one.

It sounds like you're flicking too far sideways, away from your board. You have to make sure you're dragging the side of your foot to the nose and then flicking outwards with your toe. That should keep everything together a little easier. Trying to flip the board halfway and landing on the bottom is a good way to practice. Try watching videos of kickflips in slow motion, too.

Keep practicing. You'll get it. Find a kickflip on a skate vid and then watch it in slo-mo a few times to try to figure out what exactly they're doing with their front foot that you are not. From your description, it sounds like you are either subconsciously bailing because you don't want to eat pavement or maybe you're just not getting your front leg back up quick enough.

The Proof Is In The Pudding

Try leaning a little more forward, it will help keep you aligined over the board when you do it. you might be flicking with too much downward force, making it harder to bring your front foot back up to the board. Commitment is another issue, you really just have to will yourself to keep it over mentally.

you need to brush the outside of your foot faster so you have more time to bring your foot back in
