How can I join a roller derby league?

I want to join roller derby, just a little nervous...?

• Soo, I want to join my local roller derby team. I just went to a game (bout, match?) this Saturday and it was so AWESOME! I still don't fully understand the game but everyone looked like they were having so much fun. Their website says they're always looking for new skaters and you don't even have to know how to skate (which would be me, the last time I roller skated I was like 10, but I'm sure I can still do it, just not too well). I want to join, all I have to do is send them an e-mail. The only thing that is holding me back is that I'm kind of shy and the girls there were so cool, it was kind of intimidating. I'm also kind of big too, like I'm just tall and like err "big boned" with a little more of me to love. There were bigger girls there too so that was inspiring. I'm just really nervous to take that first leap. Anyone out there roller derby, advice? I need a virtual kick to my butt to stop being silly and just do it!

  They might seem intimidating from the outside, but roller derby teams are usually some of the most accepting people on the planet. Once you're in, you're part of the sorority. A roller derby league is one part street gang, one part sorority, one part work out club. The community is generally extremely supportive. Send the email and get all the info. It's just and email. You're not signing away your life.
