How can I join a roller derby league?

How to join a roller derby in Cobb County GA?

  • I'm just looking for some general information on joining like locations, costs involved, and other basic facts...specificaly weight and age restrictions. I don't even know where to begin doing a search on Yahoo or Google to get it narrowed down to something close to where I live. I haven't been on a pair of skates in several years, but roller derby is something I've wanted to do for many years...since watching it on TV back in the 80's as a child. When I was school-age (up until about age 18) I frequently did races at the local roller rink, and really enjoyed that, but the derby is what I really want and wanted to do. Thanks for any help that can be provided!

    Well there are four leagues in GA. Check this website. http://www.derbyroster.com/ There's always the option of trying to start your own league. Most leagues have dues of around $50 a month plus an insurance fee which I believe is once a year for something like $50. Then you need gear; Skates, wheels, helmet, mouthguard, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads. (ask veterans for used gear.) There are no weight restrictions. Some leagues say over 18 some say over 21. There's a tournament in Atlanta this month. You can learn a ton and buy all your gear there. http://southernfriedsmackdown.com/ Good luck
