  • do you have any tips? i made the team, but i want to improve. And do you have any tips on how to do the splits? and usually how long does it take to learn the splits? thankz

  • Answer:

Arm Movements: -All I can say is keep them tight and clean :) Jumps: -Be VERY flexible to make jumps look super pretty -Leg weights help tons with practically every jump! -Jump bands help with toe touches, tons! (You can google both things) Splits: -Just keep stretching!!!

ive been on my school cheer leading varsity team for awhile along with other teams prior and i absolutely love it! people LOVE to watch tumbling. id try to get a back handspring and other tumbling combinations. also stretch as much as possible if you are just in front of the tv just stretch or play some music for a little bit and stretch those legs out. im not sure if you are a flyer or base but if you are a base you need to maybe start working on arm strength (you need that for tumbling too) and if a flyer, every day you need to work on moves that are done in the air (heel stretches, scorpions, scale, ETC.) always be tight and be happy to be there when practice starts. if you are unhappy chances are cheer is not for you..it will take a lot of practice and dedication. for your splits i used to sit down and spread my legs in a straddle then try to put my nose to my knees while reaching for my toes, also i put my head straight down on my leg while reaching. also get in those split positions and try to go down as far as possible and HOLD IT there, it will hurt but it will help. if you do this everyday you could probably get your split in a few weeks because it takes time for your leg muscles to tear and heal to become more flexible.

im a gymnast to get your splits- do them anytime your watching tv or aren't busy! i use to fall asleep on my bed in my splits! haha i took me like 2 weeks of solid committed training! also check out some cheer classes that they have at gymnastics places or you can take gymnastics recreation classes to help with tumbling and jumps! have fun- hope you enjoy it! oh also dance classes are good for kicks! :]

it took me a month 1.) do a lunge with your back knee on the ground leaning on your forward leg but that knee cannot go past your ankle, 2.) do a horses bow, just stretching out your forward leg and putting your nose to your knee and do the same on your other leg. 3.) stretch into both splits. Hold as long as you can but be consistent on both legs. That's how I learned to do mine! And STRETCH!

Be tight. The best thing you can do is be tight. You can probably learn to do the splits in about a month. Just practise a lot.
