Are my skateboard bushings bad?

I just bought some Venture skateboard trucks (Black and white, Lows). And Doh doh bushings.Major problem?

  • I have used Doh dohs in the past (the hard yellow ones) and loved them. Though this time i put them in and they were fine, but after skating them in and tightening them (i like trucks as tight/hard as can be) I did an ollie and the front truck tilted completely sideways as if i was carving with loose trucks and didnt come back until i jumped around on the other side. By the way i have had alot of trouble with trucks as i can never get them to stay tight. Thanks alot to rany answers, and if they are no good or it isnt the trucks its the bushings i can get my money back tomorrow. (85.95) Thanks again.

The biggest problem is you bought the wrong bushings. The yellow ones are medium soft, not hard. You blew the bushings by tightening them too tight, as soft bushings are not meant to be tightened down. You can either put the stock bushings back in. I think they are medium or medium hard, break them in and then tighten them up as much as you want. The other option is to go back to the skate shop and buy black (99a) bushings. They are very hard so don;t tighten them down before riding. I'd also find a different shop. My local shop only charges $40 for a set of Venture trucks and $6 for the bushings.

If just takes time for you to break in the bearings. As for the loose trucks it's normal, there is no way for you to keep them tight. You can put riserpads though because it lessens the vibration from when you ride around, which loosens the kingpin. But a major con of the riser pads is that it takes away from your ollies because the tail will be farther away from the ground making your pop weaker, and the riser pads don't get rid of the vibration 100%.

Frustrated

I've had it happen to me before too. The bushing will get to normal in a few days of skating, hopefully. Hard bushings do that though. The bushings that came in my Koston Independents did the same thing. And the answer to the other part of your question is that the bushing "breaks in" and gets a little softer in time and they soften up while you skate too from friction coming from the impact of landing, turning, etc. Thats why you always have to keep tightening them up.

pretty much all you have to to is let the bushings wear in. everytime i buy new trucks, i buy doh doh's, but the mids. i just let them wear in. id loosen the trucks just a little bit. itll give you better flow with the board

venture standard bushings are perfectly fine. Just put your old ones back in.

wow first off you really got ripped off with the trucks ventures are generaly one of the less flashy cheaper trucks are you sure you didnt buy tensor lows instead also to answer as many other have the bushings will break in they will not always stay as tight as you like when you get them brand new trucks take a few days to break in simply cause they have never had that much force and movement on them until they wer placed on a board kinda think of it like when your leg falls asleep when you get up it is rather hard to move and sluggish much like trucks that have never been used before just give them time also i general it is rather hard to keep trucks extremely tight unless you stay completely straight in all of your tricks land straight bolts each time in the same straight line and basicaly get a wide enough board and wide enough trucks to balance your weight in the center therefore not shifting the weight to either side and hence loosening the trucks really i think extremely tight trucks really just limit your abilitys on a board
