SPORTS MANAGEMENT CAREER?

  • Basic details of my life.... I am 32, I have no qualifications other than the basic GCSEs I left school with at 16. I am a single female living in the UK. I have worked in sales petty much since I left school, I have decided I want to change my life but Im struggling with a definite direction to take. The things I know for sure are: I want to live in New York, I one day want my own business, I would like to pursue some sort of qualifications for a sense of achievement and I want to know what I want to do with my life so I have a focus like everyone else! I was thinking accountancy or hotel management as I am good with people and numbers but after reading about the sports management degree at NYU, my head was turned by something I have never even thought about! I love sports but I realized that I love the business of sports even more, my head is now full of ideas about event management in sports etc and on the one hand I am so excited but on the other Im thinking is it a waste of time? Im 32 now, I think its fairly safe to assume a career in sports management/marketing is a very competitive one and I feel my age would go against me. Should I stick to the "safer" careers of accountancy/ hotel management or go After sports management? Are there any other career opportunities withing this field or any quicker ways of getting into it? Am I Simply too old?
