A backflip (also know as a back tuck) is definitely something that you should not try in your back yard or living room by yourself, no matter how confident you feel. It's realy dangerous and can lead to injury or death. Do not try it, whatsoever. But I will give you tips and a short story of how it was for me. Typically, you should learn a back handspring before you learn a tuck. Reason being is because if you know how to do a back handspring, you sort of have the experience and knownledge of how it feels to go backwards. Once you have a good back handspring, you can move up to a tuck. A back tuck is A LOT easier than a standing back handspring, ask any tumbler. You want to jump up as high as you can, making sure that you throw your arms back. DO NOT look back. Once you reach the peak of your jump, you want to pull your legs towards your chest. DO NOT pull your upper body towards your legs because you will not rotate AT ALL, causing you to land either on your head or your back. When you see the floor, DO NOT open up just yet; how old to your tuck for just a split-second more and then open up. Your feet should land FLAT on the ground. It's really scary learning at first. I had practically hit a wall when I moved on to tucks. I was thinking about it too much and always thought I was going to hit my head, EVEN WITH A SPOTTER! One day I went for it with my coach and I didn't get it. I got a feel of what I needed to improve on, though. After about a month I finally got it. It's fairly simple, but you have to be committed to doing it. Once you get your tuck, don't stall. Move on to the next trick. Now, I can do a backflip on to a guys hands. Don't. You're going to cost taxpayers a lot for your future hospital visit for your stupidity.

well first you need to kno how to do a back bend.. and then a backwalkover...then a backhandspring... then to do a backflip jump really high and then do the motions up and over with your hips.. you jump a mid and rotate with your hips and do NOT stop in mid air while u flip and ull be fine

Start out by standing at the edge of an in ground pool, facing away from the water. Try your backflip into the pool. If you don't rotate enough, you will just land funny in the water. If you land on your feet in the water, you are pretty close. You really want to over-rotate, because the water is below your feet. If you accomplish that, you are home free. I would get someone to spot you, though, in case you slip and hit the side of tthe pool. Good Luck

UK Cheerleader is 100% spot on. Getting a back tuck is hard, and it takes serious dedication. It's dangerous to do without a proper coach spotting, and mats to land on when you fall (because you WILL fall). I don't have any other advice besides what UK Cheerleader said - that's how you do one, but it's seriously dangerous on your own.

A gymnastics instructor can help you. It is something you work up to, and a trained professional will spot you so that you don't end up landing on your head. You don't want to break your neck or knock out a few teeth your first time.
