Answer:
everyone hates telling people how to do tricks they think are easy but i'll try. 1) learn to manual first (just a square of sidewalk long is enough for now): this will help with step 1 of ollies OLLIES: Step 1) Manual kind of, Hit the tail against the ground, then slide you front foot up and it will level out the board. As soon as you hit the back against the ground slide it up or you will end up just going to your tail. learning short manuals help before snapping the tail down to start it out then sliding that foot up. watch some videos of ollies and watch both feet get some skate shoes, ( i started in etnies cinch) but get Cupsole ones if your beginning cause vulcanized ones will wear down in 2 months if your practicing alot. difference between these are: Cupsole: the sole is stitched to the shoe, look for stitching ( most etnies have it ) and they have fatter padding. but when you get better vulcanized are more flexible and let you "feel the baord under your feet" cause they are thinner. Vulcanized: the sole is glued to the shoe, that results in shorter life of shoe, but SHOE GOO helps(look that up). mine lasted 6months instead of 2. these have less padding mostly but are good once you get used to skating and want to get better. I wear both: CUPSOLE:: Etnies Chrome 02,Lakai Mike Mo's and VULCANIZED: Lakai Manchesters So in conclusion i suggest cupsole and once you get the ollies good get a pair of CHEAP PRICED vulcanized shoes. I suggest lakai manckesters cause it's lakais best vulc. but make sure you get shoe goo. it repairs them, its pretty much liquid glue/rubber. put this on with a knife, a good thick layer covering wear it has worn down, but thats really for when you start kickfliping. so get etnies. most are cupsole and are good shoes to learn in. Shoe wise get low priced shoes from good companies. no Tony hawk or walmart. I shop Journeys.com and CCS.com has some good variety of shoes. just make sure you try on the shoes before you go and buy online to see how they fit. SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG ANSWER BUT I HOPE THIS HELPS: wish some one told me this stuff when i started, this is pretty much all i know on the topic so get outside tomorrow and skate. Best thing to know about skating is that it's only a competition with yourself. oh and that skate shoe companies just want to make $$$ so buy those shoes for $50 or less, the lakais go up to $60 but for them it's a pretty good price, journeys.com has the etnies chrome 02 for $30 and they are awesome, they are light blue, neon light blue, teal, what ever that color is and black.
