How do I improve my Gymnastics skills?

What are ways to improve my Gymnastics skills at home? (Especially Bars)?

  • So I started Gymnastics in January. I started very late (14) and I really want to level up faster. (I'm in level 2 right now) Since I only go once a week, what are ways to improve skills at home? I know strecthing (I already got my left and right split down)but what else? Beam: What are ways to improve balance? I have a beam at home but I still suck at like doing handstands and cartwheels on it. Vault: what are ways to practice it at home? BAR: Out of all the events, bars are my worst. I can't even do a pull over without my coach. I have a bar at home but it's for like 5th graders and below. So it's really short. I really wanna get my Pull over learned and Kip. So what are ways that'll help me get better at them at home? Floor: are there things I could do to imporve my BHS? I can do one, but only with my coach spotting me. And any advice on how to hold your handstands longer? Sorry this was long.. Thanks for any answers :)

  • Answer:

To improve balance, you just have to keep practicing. When doing cartwheels on beam, look at your underarm and you'll be able to stick it. When you do a pull over, you pull yourself over with your hips and abs more than your arms. For bars, you could do hip, arm, and ab exercises. There are TONS of things you can do to improve your back handspring. If you have weights (like 5 pounds), bring them up and over your head with straight arms. Do this at least 20 times a day. If you don't have weights, you could use something else but make sure they are the same amount of weight. Injury is often caused when one arm/leg is stronger than the other. Do lots of handstands in various forms to get used to doing a back handspring. To hold a handstand, use your fingers to balance yourself. Make sure you are in the correct form when doing them. As for vault, everything else you learn will be applied. Focus on strengthening your body. These skills will take time but if you keep it up, you'll achieve them. If you need any more tips, I suggest you search through YouTube. Good luck :)
