Tips for doing an ollie on a skateboard?

What is the Problem with my Ollie? ( Experienced skateboarders)?

  • SO I got a skateboard for my birthday. And I am actually a beginner, I have an All Star (Converse) and a Micheal Jordan shoe. I skate with the all star but I am not able to Ollie very well, I was wondering if it was because I am just a beginner and I need more practice or if I needed to switch shoes. If so, which shoes are the best. And also Could you give me some tips on how to Ollie or if you have or know a video that helped you Ollie could you give me the URL. Thanks.

  • Answer:

I can ollie bare foot so its probably not the shoes although i really recommend a pair of legit skate shoes. an ollie is all about timing. stand with one foot on the tail one foot behind the front bolts (the further you start with this foot back the higher your going to be able to ollie for the most part). Slam the back foot down popping the board, slide your front foot up while you jump. When you slide this front foot up your basically helping drag the board up with you and also leveling it out. dont get frustrated and keep at it.

Different types of shoes can restrict movement, if you can Ollie fairly well as a beginner in one pair and not the other then it is a possibility that the other trainers are restricting movement, just like when your wearing jeans compared to sport pants, jeans will restrict flexibility and movement compared to sport pants. This is the same principle with shoes. (Also why GYM teachers scream at you if you wear the wrong trainers)
