Before Tryouts: Get yourself into shape [cheer exercises]. You should work on your flexibility, power, and your endurance. You might want to find out if there are any tryout camps, practices, and/or sessions before tryouts to give you some practice. You may also want to look into getting involved in some tumbling and/or dance classes to help with your technique and get your body physically prepared. Here are some other tips prior to tryouts: 1.) Stretch as much as you can [stretching exercises] - focus on your hamstrings and legs for toe touches and stretches 2.) Work on your Endurance [endurance exercises] - work on your endurance so that you can keep up at tryouts 3.) Strength train [Strength exercises] - you need to be able to lift and be lifted. Many skills require you abs, legs, arms, shoulders to be ready to handle the stress. 4.) Power train [Power excersises] - many cheerleading skills require for you to be explosive even if you are a flier or base. 5.) Work on your Jumps [jumping excersises] - it will be a required skill and you can work on it in the safety of your home. 6.) Take Tumbling classes - you will get a leg up on the other girls trying out, because some will not be able to tumble 7.) Take Dance classes - dancing is similar to cheerleader, so get used to moving your body. 8.) Work on motions in the mirror - it is the little things that count and I have even seen college girls make the mistake of not working on their motions. Tryout sessions pointers: Tryouts will usually have a practice session beforehand. You will be given some cheers, chants, and a dance to memorize during this time. You will also be given the chance to work on your skills beforehand so use your time wisely. Here are some session pointers: 1.) Don’t compare yourself to others. It might make you nervous. I have seen girls who would have made the team give up, because they thought that they were not going to make one of the spots. 2.) Don’t' be afraid to ask for help. Get all of your questions answered before the tryouts. It makes you look like you care about the tryouts, and you get all of your questions answered so you confidence improves. 3.)GO to the sessions. Some girls won't even go to the sessions, and I guarantee you will miss something that you could use in your favor. 4.)When practicing the cheers, chants, and dances be sure you stand somewhere were you can see the instruction. 5.)Pay attention to questions asked by the other, and NO goofing around. 6.)Take a blank tape to be able to record the music for the dance. 7.)Again practice you motions in the mirror. BUT this time also do it with you cheers, chants, and dance. 8.)Pratice with other individuals so that you can critique one another. 9.)Go full out when practicing, so that when the time comes to do it in front of the judges you are ready. Morning of tryouts: 1.)Get plenty of sleep 2.)Eat a good and healthy breakfast, but don't fill yourself up. Stick with Oatmeal, fruits, and/or vegetables and stay away from junk food. 3.)Stay away from Caffeine or junk food. It will make your voice break. 4.) Bring a snack and some water as it could be a long day. 5.)When getting dressed wear school colors and a bow in your hair 6.)Be kind on the makeup and possibly wear a temporary tattoo on your cheek with the school mascot Tryouts: 1.)Show up to tryouts ahead of time to get use to your surroundings. It will calm your nerves. 2.)Stretch out beforehand 3.)Practice you cheers, chants, and dance beforehand so that they are fresh in your head, but don’t over do it. 4.)Remember not to wear yourself out, it could be a long day. 5.)Try not to sit down too much, it will tighten up your muscles and you could get an injury 6.)When you are called run in (or tumble) and "hit the crowd" showing your enthusiasm 7.)Always smile. It gives everyone the impression that you are happy to be here and makes you approachable. Both are qualities of a good cheerleader so keep this in mind. Become a judges favorite and get on their good side. 8.)Yell load, but don’t scream 9.)Make sure your words are clear and crisp. Do not sing the words. 10.)If miss a skill don't frown or pout, or the judges will see this and possibly deduct this from your score 11.)No matter what skill you are attempting just make sure you do it and don't give up. I have seen many girls give up on tumbling when they could have given themselves some points by trying something simple. Tip 1: Always smile. It gives everyone the impression that you are happy to ber here and makes you approachable. Tip 2:Use facials (not too much) to add to your tryout. It will make you stand out. Tip 3: You must have confidence during the tryout period. At least act like you know what you are doing so the judges feel you could fit in immediately. Tip 4: Practicing in front of a mirror. You are your worst critic so use that to your advantage and work on your skills. Tip 5: Wear school colors for

take tumbling classes and learn flip flops and tucks- (do you cheer for a school team or competetive??) i am a freshman now, but i have cheered for competetive cheer for about 5 years now. i have a back tuck right now (i take a long time, and get scared constantlyyy)... i just quit because in high school you get a horrible rep if you are a cheerleader. i hate that. but cheer is fun. you need to learn everything you can, but no matter what it is funn (: good luck and have fun!! Stetch, girl, stretch!! Here are some that I've found very helpful: L Wall Stretch Sit w/ your tush right against the wall (sidways). Take the leg that's farthest from the wall, and extend it out so that it is parallel to the wall. Take the leg that's closer to the wall, and swing it up so it sticks straight up vertically on the wall. During this step, your tush should turn so that it's no longer sideways on the wall, but right up against it (if that makes sense). At this point, your legs should be in an 'L' against the wall. Lean your back forward without moving your legs. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat, switching legs. Do 3 sets of these. Face a wall, and put your tush against it, with your back on the floor. Put your legs in a V on the wall, and push down, or have somebody do it for you. Stretch as far as you can, hold for 20 seconds, push a little more, hold for 15 seconds, push a little more, and hold for 10 seconds. Do 4 sets of these. (This one will really help w/ toe touches) With your back against a wall, put your legs in a V in front of you. Lift both or your legs about 3 inches (or as high as you can get them) off the floor. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat, this time only using the right leg. Repeat once more, using only the left leg. Then repeat entire process. Do 3 sets of these. This one is great for abs. It's called a hollow body. Lay flat on the ground, and lift your shoulder blades (plus your head) and legs about 5 inches off the ground. Hold for 20 seconds. Do 3 sets of this. Then, do what's called hollow body ups. Lift your back and your legs towards eachother, so it's like you're doing a sit-up. When you go back down, don't let your legs or shoulder blades off the ground. Do 10 of these. Just Google "Cheer Stretches" and you're bound to come up with oodles of them that you can try. Also, when you're practicing, make sure that when you do kicks and side jumps (like hurdlers), do both sides, even if you suck at one of them, because otherwise it will make your toe touches lop-sided. Drinking lots of water should help as far as toning. Here are some basic cheer tryout tips: 1) Smile a lot! Even when you're dead tired and you feel like your going to drop, force yourself to grin. That shows that you can look good in front of a crowd no matter what 2) Be sharp with your motions. Hit them so hard that your elbows hurt! Make your motions nice and crisp, don't slack off. If you're sharp, it will make your routine look prettier. 3) Out of practice, stretch a lot so that you're nice and limber for tryouts. Flexibility helps a lot in cheerleading 4) Be LOUD!! Even if the other girls aren't really opening up and you feel like your the only one yelling (even if you feel dorky) keep up the loudness. This is so important to get the crowd pumped up. Also be clear and articulate when cheering, so that they can understand what your saying and follow you. Don't use a sing-songy voice either. Even if you feel like you sound like a man, it will sound better to the crowd. 5) Learn how to fix your mistakes quickly. Don't be afraid to make mistakes - everybody does. What the coaches will be looking at is if and how fast you can fix them. This shows that you'll be easy to work with during practices. 6) Always stay positive and show spirit! Show them that you won't complain at practices, and that you'll always be willing. Be happy, and show them that you're glad to be there and having fun. For the day of the tryout, (if you have one) wear a shirt with you school's color, mascot, etc. on it. Wear a hairbow with your school colors. Be creative. Taking a tumbling class should help a lot too. The actual process is like varies by school, but I'll just tell you what mine was like. So, the first 3 days, they taught us a cheer, a sideline, a dance, and all of the cheer basics. These include 2 jumps (side hurdlers {left and right} and toe touch), how to do a kick, and all the motions (High V, Low V, Touchdown, T, Broken T, Diagnol, etc. etc) Then on the 4th day was the actual tryout, which we did w/ a partner in front of the two judges. They had us do just about everything we were taught. They had us show them 2 jumps, a kick, the sideline, the cheer, and the dance. But I'm in 8th grade. I know at our highschool, for JV you have to be able to do a roundoff and go into a half extension (stunting) and for Varsity you have to be able to do a back handspring and go into full extension. Just eat healthy, stretch and practice daily, and don't give up! Good luck at tryouts! Hope this helps! Cheers!

Do some yoga, it makes you flexible and is really good for your body!. Go on the internet and search how to do,baby cobra, downward dog pose, child's pose, water dance, sun salutations, the bridge, cat pose, seated spinal twist, cow face pose, these should help you build flexibility. The crane pose will build arm strength for flips and round offs. When you sit on the floor and watch tv or something keep your legs open as much as you can ,but not painful, to help become flexible for splits. :). Please know how to do cartwheels before flips. :P. Hope you do good and make the team. :)

Girl I hate to tell you... But NO flexibility NOTHING isn't gonna do it. I have 1 thing to absolutely help you! TAKE GYMNASTICS! Tell them you want to be a cheerleader next year and need lots of practice. Take tumbling classes ONLY. You don't need to know how to do the beam and bars to be a cheerleader. Take classes 3 times a week. Its gonna cost alot but if you want it that bad you got to try hard! Good Luck! To help your flexibility. Try to do the splits everyday and sit in that position for at least 10 minutes. You'll stretch out soon enough. Moves You should learn Probably: Cart wheel Splits Toe touch round off Front hand spring TO help you out. Go on you tube and type in Junior-High cheerleaders. Watch what they do and stuff. Even type in how to do _____ what ever trick. It will help. Good Luck!

um well i am in 6th grade and i have no flexibility either so here are some things that involve cheerleading that require NO FLEXIBILTY!!! herky side herky cartwheel you can look up how to do them on youtube but cheerleading is also a lot of dance so if you know any hip hop or dance moves don't be afraid to show them cuz they use a lot of them in their cheers.. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

do u like waffles???

For flexibility you just have to stretch each day and push harder each time. At tryouts you should exspect to do soem stunting, the coaches will place you as top, main base, base, backspot or front spot. If Your top keep ur leg totally starigh, and NEVER bend ur knees. Backspot ALWAYS look up at your top. They'll be a cheer section, where they teach you a cheer and moves to go with it. Which you will have to perform. When I did it there were 3 at once. You have to open your mouth wide, articulate your words and sound butch, not like a little girl. And smile and make facials, so reacting to what you cheering about. You'll also have a dance section where you weel dance! They'll teach it and usually in pairs you perform it. Also they have a fitness station where they'll see how many pushups/situp you can do in a minuite ect. So be fit! Tip: SMILE!!! The WHOLE time! Warning: The next day your barely going to be able to walk.

You really must learn how to stretch and be flexible. Practice stretching every day. Practice toe point. Learn how to extend your movements. It's going to make you sore...but if you really want this you have to practice, practice, practice.
