How do you learn a back walkover at home?

What's the best way to learn a back walkover at home?

  • I've developed an interest in gymnastics again, but I can't join a gymnastics group in my area. So, I'm on my own. I'd like to learn basic things, such as a back walkover, front walkover, and a cartwheel on the beam. What's the best way to learn a back walkover at home?

  • Answer:

They way i learned to do a back walk over was... First go into a bridge. Make sure you are by a wall Put you're both feet on the wall while still in the bridge and then kick over over time this will become easier with muscle memory and the strength in your legs and arm muscles. ohh and! when in a bridge. the closer you're hands are to your feet the easier! another way is go into a bridge, but while in the bridge have something under you're feet such as a big phone book maybe two or a folded up mat so that you're body is not level. you're feet should be higher making it easier to kick over. :D hope this helps!

if you want to learn doing a bridge my standing up first without having to do a table top (laying down then pushing up into a bridge) then this is how i learned. get really close to a wall and stand in front of it, your back facing the wall. reach backwards like you're going to do a bridge and feel for the wall. when you're hands are on the wall, sort of walk down it with your hands til they're on the ground and you're in a bridge. to get back up without laying down, just simply walk back up the wall. to do a back walkover. put your feet as close to your hands as you can stand, then push up on one foot as hard as you can and follow your legs over. if you have someone at home that's willing to help you, have them put one hand under your back while you're in a bridge and then help bring your legs over as you kick them up. i hope this helps =]

do a lot of bridges! try to touch your feet to your hands. also do them off the couch or bed, once you can do those, put a cushion down and do them off or that, keep practicing the kicking over first. have someone spot you. when you get that, do the actual back walkover. keep your leading leg out in front and lead through with it. good luck!
