What should I know about Volleyball for Volleyball tryouts?

What do I need to know for middle school volleyball tryouts?

  • i am SOOOO nervous!!!!!!! i really want to make the volleyball team. i know how to set, bump, serve, and sort of spike but can u tell me what the coaches/ drills really focus on and what the main point is? also do we need to know how to block for middle school tryouts? like block the ball when you are on defense. is that one of the drills? thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

    focus, focus, focus on the ball first off! know where the ball is at all times and communicate. coaches LOVE that! coaches also like if you are speedy [this shows you can get to the ball quickly]. just have a good attitude and have fun and they will drill you on technique during the season! have fun and good luck :)

Don't be nervous first of all. If you know the basic bump, set , spike then the drills, it shouldn't be a problem. The main point of the drills is for them to evaluate how much you really do know and how much control you have with the volleyball (i.e. can you bump with control to a certain person or place.) Blocking is essential if you are a position called " MIDDLE," which is usually the blocker position; this position will block the ball on defense. Yes, the coach will make it one of the drills to see if you able to block and the drill also helps you improve on blocking. Blocking is all about timing, when you jump up to block the ball.

Spots

You really want to be able to move. Coaches find it really annoying when a ball drops right in front, or right next to somebody. Just try your best to hit it, in general. You don't always have to get it over on the first bump. Pass it to your team mates, or just get it in the air, so that someone else can get it. Most of all,don't panic! If a spike comes fast at you, get ready, and TRY YOUR BEST! No one expects you to hit the ball right EVERY time. Have fun, and you'lll do great!
