Volleyball Drills for One Person. First, I'm gonna tell a lil about me so read on please!?
-
Hello, I'm 13 and going into the eight grade. I have been playing volleyball since about 3rd grade. I have played on a club team for 4-5 years/seasons. I have completed many skills camps. I recently finished a camp at Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL. I am a setter. My school team has many accomplishments with me being the starting setter: 4th in County, Conference Champs, Regional Champs, Sectional Champs, and lost to the winning team of state. Our school is "2A'' and we don't have tryouts. Our enrollment for 7-8 grade is 97, our classes having almost 70 kids; the biggest class in our school. If you were wondering why I provided that information, I do so because I would like the best possible answer and I feel its necessary to do so for my question to be fully answered. I have hopes of playing in a College level when I am old enough. ISU would be wonderful. Ok, enough about me, my question: My weakest skills are blocking and hitting. I would also like to improve my passing and serving skills. My setting could be better, although, I am fairly decent minus the back setting part. So, with that said, I would like to know some drills to work on those items but, here's the thing: Only drills that allow ME and A BALL. I am an only child and my parents don't often play sports with me. So, I only want single person/single ball drills. Thank you Very Much!

Alright i think i can help. I am 14 and I also play volleyball on a very good team with amazing coaches (not to brag but its true). We do SO many drills. Here are some you can do on your own that will help you. Passing/Setting: -this one seems simple but it is SO helpful. Simply practice good form and pass/ set the ball in the air for around 45 seconds. The goal is to have good control and not let the ball drop. You can mix it up by doing: high pass low pass, high set low set, pass set, or make up your own. Do several sets right after one another with a 10 second break in between. This will also strengthen your muscles in your arms you use to hold your arms up. -if your house has an angled roof, stand in front of it and pass or set the ball on the roof and wait for it to come down, pass it back up, etc. Blocking/Hitting: -find a place to set the ball that is kinda high up. (on a swingset slide, a high shelf, be creative) practice loading your legs (get low) and try to jump as high as you can getting your hands on top of the ball. This will improve how high you jump and make your legs stronger. -practice your approach. practice makes perfect! try to do it faster each time. Im not sure about your school but in mine the coaches have a physical ability part of our tryouts. We have to run a half mile in 4 minutes, ab stuff, arm stuff, etc. we do all sorts of different things to make us stronger and faster! also if there are that many girls trying out, if you are quicker, stronger, or anything like that it may give you an advantage over other girls and get you noticed by the coaches. I hope i helped and good luck at tryouts!!!!!

Hello, I have done to drill myself at home, hit the volleyball against the house and it comes back to me and i return it to the wall of the house. I keep doing this sequence until i miss the shot...then i start over again. I also do this with serving, overhand and underhand. I hit the ball against a wall/my house and do this several times before I stop. Another thing i do is practice bumping and setting I bump the ball into the air then i set it up them bump then set and so on, I keep doing this drill until I have dropped the ball. I hope I helped!

You can get better at all of these by simply just doing it over and over and over again until it becomes muscle memory. Passing and setting can be practiced against a wall or just walking around. You should get the form down for hitting before adding a ball into the equation but when you do, there is this thing that some teams use to practice hitting that just holds the ball in the perfect position so that you can get used to smashing it. You can buy a metal one for more money than it's worth, or you can build one out of pipes. anyway, that's the best advice I can offer you...hope it helps a little..
