How to make your own volleyball camp?

How can I make my school's volleyball team even though I've never played before?

  • I'm going to be a freshmen in the fall and I want to try out for the JV volleyball team. My school is small and only has a JV and Varsity team so I can't try out for a freshmen team, because there isn't one. :p At orientation the sports director said it's relatively easy to make a team because the school is small but since I've never played I feel that I'm at a disadvantage, and I would REALLY like to make the team. I'm relatively physically fit, but I'm kind of short (5'4"). I haven't really ever played before. I did a really basic and brief volleyball camp 2 years ago but I barely remember anything about it. I have a friend who's willing to show me a few pointers maybe once or twice before tryouts. I'm willing to buy a volleyball, practice myself, watch videos...whatever I have to do before tryouts to make it. What do you suggest I do to make the team? Are there certain things I should know or do? What can I do to make myself more appealing during tryouts? Tryouts are the last week of August, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

i am sure that you would make the team. its a small school you said and there are probably not many people trying out. volleyball is a sport that nobody pays any attention to :( you said that you went to a brief vball camp..all that stuff will come back to you. i am sure of it. yeah definitely, buy a vball, practice by yourself and a friend, and watch youtube vids and college games on tv. you might want to go jogging for a little and do some sprints, and jump up and down. bend your knees, jump up, arms up to "block", then come down and bend your legs (you'll learn more when you get to tryouts). i'm 5 ft 9, so im the blocker for my team, im not sure what your position will be. you want to build up your stamina too, because games could go on for a while. especially on the varsitylevel. to win, you have to win 3 of the 5 games, and could have to play all 5 games. and then you have tournaments where you play off an on for 6 hours. during tryouts, dont complain. coaches hate seeing a player whining that they are there or have an attitude, lol. i have tryouts in late august too. im a senior in high school and this will be my 3rd year on varsity :) i am so excited. i've been playing since 6th grade too. so have fun. work hard. and you'll do great! :D GOOD LUCK!
