How should I approach the SAT's?

Coaches: How can I teach my players to do a proper approach?

• I've been a coach for an 8th grade team for about 8 years- and it seems like I keep running into the same problem- my girls can't do a proper approach. I walk them through a 3 step approach with how they are supposed to swing their arms, and most can do that, but once we get a ball in play, the approach goes out the door- they are running and swatting. The kicker is, over the summer, some girls go to camp, and when they come to me- they can do an approach with a ball! How on earth can they learn something in one week that I can't teach them in 8?   Good Question!! First of all, a good way to start is to make sure there standing in the right place for THEM to have enough room to do a approach.So...make all of them stand at the net and do there approach backwards... meaning starting at the net and go away from it.(That should be where every girl/boys needs to start...NOT everyones space is the same so they should differ.) Second, Confidence in getting the ball over is a biggie. So after teaching the 3 and/or 4 step approach, Yes use the ball but not the net.Let them get comfortable with getting it over...add net later. It always seems when you put the net up they dont do there approach and and are just worried about getting it over so ball before net. Hope that helps!!
