Hey, hope i can help you with these, i am a setter for university so i know what and where hitters should be doing their different approaches. The running spike, the name i am not familiar with, but i think what you are asking is when a middle hitter does a step around...so i will hope i am right and explain the Step. And i also am gonna assume you are a middle hitter cause the power and right side don't do all of these, but if you are a power or right side feel free to ask me again and i will explain those...so this could be a very long answer but you said be specific haha. So Running spike/step (only the middle does this) You start running as if you were going to hit a 51 set, so you want to start to start your approach as the pass is closer to the setters hands but far enough away that you have time to get there, it is good if you start your approach just behind the 3m line (attack line) so you can get some momentum. then about 2 ft from the setter you push off with your left leg to go behind him...you then take a step with your right and then with your left and take off on just your left foot. You should be hitting the ball at the peak (it will be about a 62 set behind the setter). This is a hard play for the other teams middle because they will have to move against the grain and will probably bump into their power who is also blocking. If you can it would be great to hit the bal down the line, but most often you will need to hit the ball cross court. X PLAY There are many versions of the X PLAY, but i will only give the front row versions....there are three 1. A X Play with the middle and power. The middle comes in hard for a 51 set, and just after the middle starts the approach the power hitter starts to come in. The setter sets the ball pretty much over the middle and sets the power a 43 (or 53) just past the middle...this is great because unless the other teams right side blocker calls it out, their middle will go up with your middle and the power will only have one blocker. 2. The second X Play is also with the middle and power. This time the middle approaches as if he is going to run a 31 set, as he does this the power comes in from the outside and hits a 53 set. I love this X PLAY the most because the middle will follow your middle and won't be able to regroup and your power will have no blocker. 3. The third X play is with the right side and middle. The middle comes in for a 51, and the right side comes in behind the middle and hits a 53 set. like i said earlier it confuses the middle blocker on the other team. and i am not really sure about the stack, as a setter i have never run that in my system so i won't be able to help you with that one unless it has a different name that i might know and recognize hope this helped and that you will be able to apply them to your game, but jsut so you know these plays should not be done all the time, they are used to keep the other teams blockers off balance and have them thinking, if you do it too often they will lock on and shut you down...GOOD LUCK

It all depends...look at where the ball is landing or the direction of the ball...jus hv a clear mind and look at some videos in youtube on how players do it...use some logic(pls vote me as best answer as i need points quick)

To do all those, you will need: 1> a very good setter, who can set all kinds of wild pass for your play; 2> a very good coach, who understands when to run what and all kinds of variations from one play to another; 3> your commitment... I know you called yourself addict, but you will need at least three other addicts on the same team to achieve your goal, and you have to convince them that all these complicated COMBO PLAY would work... first of all, you all need to pass the ball with 90%+ accuracy.

Um... its sort of complicated to do all combo plays but you can try it out... I only know how to do a running spike though... For a running spike, you absolutely MUST hit it when it is at its peak. For this, you have to be a good jumper but not touch the net. Train yourself to run right when the setter or whoever hits it up to make contact with the ball. Once they make contact, if you are far, run and hit it right before it starts falling.

ok heres what you do....as soon as the setter lets go of the ball then you do ur aproach and smack that ball to the ground.

I think you might mean the "slide" when you say the running spike. For all of these options, you must have GREAT passers, and you must have the basics down for spiking. If you can hit a consistent ball on a regular attack, then work on these ideas. There are so many ways to vary your attack on offense - but it all starts with establishing a middle attack. Running a stack or an X has less impact if the defense knows your middle hitter is not able to make a strong attack. We (a men's team I am on) run all sorts of crazy stuff, especially when we have a free ball or a lazy serve to work with. We have an inside shoot, a double quick, a cluster, the wall... The cluster is a blast on your first serve receive of the match. Line up with all your players as close to each other as you can without overlap, and have your two best passers go get the serve. With your setter starting in the back row, once pass is made (and it has to be perfect) send all 5 players on the court rushing to the net like they are going to get a quick set, and set a low shoot to either front or back. Have everyone jump and look like they are swinging, but don't let the two back row players touch the ball... it is fun to watch the defenders try to decide where to go...

Okay here's the thing. it depends on how long you're approach takes you. For me, when I hit, I start my approach right as the ball leaves m y setter's hands. Them, if you're a couple steps behind, you can just skip the approach and go up a set the ball over instead of hitting it. hope this helps=]
