Tips on learning an Aerial jump by myself?

Who knows how to jump serve ?

  • i am trying to improve for volleyball tryouts for high school ...any tips learning to jump serve at home?

  • Answer:

The jump serve is a hard thing to learn and it'll take time, but you can get it! Basically, the way you would hit a ball in the front row is the way you would jump serve, except you're tossing the ball to yourself for the jump serve instead of having someone set it to you. :) If you have your approach/footwork for a front row attack you should be able to learn the jump serve in no time. One of the biggest things is your toss, though. You need to decide how you want to do your jump serve, a simple top spin/float, 2 or 3 step approach, etc. What I do for my jump serve is toss the ball with my right hand (so the ball is high and in front of me), start with my left foot back, and then once I've tossed the ball, I do the same foot work that I'd do for a 3 step approach on the outside (left, right-left). Then I jump in the air with my right elbow up and higher than my wrist and my left arm out in front of me, then I contact the ball on top and land inside the court. It sounds basic, but it's all about consistency of the toss. Just work on it and you'll get it! Practice tossing the ball to yourself over and over again until you get it where you want it, and then practice your footwork for the jump serve, then put them together! Good luck!

Other answers

it depends on what kind of jump serve you want to learn, the is the jump float, the topspin jump float, the topspin jump serve or the backspin jump serve. personally i can only do the jump float, the topspin jump float and the top spin. just go in you back yard and serve from one end to the other and go to youtube and watch some videos to get the general idea of what to do.
