What are some tips you can give me for volleyball tryouts?

I REALLY need some advice in Volleyball! Please help? Last day of tryouts tomorrow!!?

  • My tryouts for 7th grade volleyball started on Monday August 1st and is ending tomorrow, Friday August 5th. The first cut was yesterday and luckily, I made it. But, since tomorrow is the last day, I need to do really good. Especially since the team only has 12 positions and my coach said that she already had 7 of those 12 figured out. I need to really step it up tomorrow and I need some advice bad. If someone who has played volleyball could give me some advice on these things I'd really appreciate it; ~ How can you make sure that all of your serves make it over the net? ~ How can you make sure that all of your passes/bumps are controlled and go to the setter? ~ How can you make sure that all your spikes are strong, controlled, and go to where you want them to go? ~ How can you, in general, be a good volleyball player? I've been playing volleyball for 3 years now but I have never had to do spikes or serves from the distance that I have to at tryouts. I really want to make the team and I would greatly appreciate any advice I could get. Also, do you have any tips for me on how to keep my nerves under control and how to impress my coach tomorrow? Thank you so much for answering if you do!!

  • Answer:

~ Depends on how you;re going to serve it. Overhand? Underhand or Set it? Overhand: make sure your elbow is not bent when you're about to hit the ball. Underhand: the direction you're hitting has to be straight,to make sure, practice underhand serving a lot with the wall. Set: if you're really not sure doing those 2 serves, setting is always easier. ~ Again, practice at home, ask your friend or family to stand a bit away from you (imagine he/she's the setter) and you keep bumping/passing the ball to her/him. By controlling the ball, you have to control your strength and direction. ~ Good position and spiking techniques and a lot of practice. If you have a yard outside, practice spiking outside. ~ Smile, have a positive attitude so coaches will love and pick you to be on the team and don't get all stressed out if you make a mistake. No one's perfect. Goood luuuuck!!!! xoxo

All you can do is practice. Their is no gurantee that you can get it over everytime. I just practice with family and friends. Just practice and youll do great!! (:

For 7th grade, the coaches only care about good team spirit and if you are coachable. Ask lots of questions: When you get the answer, nod, smile, and Paraphrase so the coach can see that you really want to learn. Since it seems like you almost have the set down, so go early and ask if he/she can help you set. They will be impressed with you willingness to learn, and your dedication. Also, ask if you can help set up or clean up the net. Run to shag the balls and when they tell you to get up on the court from water break. Show effort and show that you want to play Have the right gear and the right attitude!!! Good luck on this season!!!!!! And don't worry if you don't make the team because there is always next year and club/ travel/ rec teams. Again, good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
