What should I know about Volleyball for Volleyball tryouts?

What do I need to know for Middle School Volleyball tryouts?

  • I was just wondering what drills and techniques i needed to know. The tryouts aren't until spring so i have a lot of time to learn different things. I am a decent player. I have never actually played on a team. I just play at the beach or with my friends for fun. Please tell me what i need to expect when i go to tryouts! THANXS!

Ahh middle school seems so long ago :) I made my middle school volleyball team and I had never played on a team either. So I'm sure if you are super dedicated and committed you can make it too! At tryouts you will be tested on a number of different things -passing -ball control -setting -blocking (maybe) -attacking -court awareness -attitude -overall athletic ability -serving They will do different drills and you will probably hat some of them and love others. They will condition you, (not too hard considering its middle school). Expect to do planks, situps, pushups, lunges, wall sits, squats and a variety of other things. Make sure you can serve overhand, this is a sure fire way to get you on a middle school team. Also, know your rotations. If you are good at something in particular practice that! If you are a good outside hitter, make sure yo show that off, if you can pass, work on your back row defensive skills. Expect the coach to go harder on you at tryouts than in actual practices. they are trying to weed out the sucky players :). most middle schoolers have little to no volleyball experience, so you should be fine. court awareness is a biggy as well always call the ball and know when its your ball. Techniques and skills to know -passing and setting on target -when to attack, roll, or tip the ball -overhand serving -rotations goodluck email me if you need more :)

You need to know just how to pass and to control it. Setting and hitting is optional. But you can't get a good play without a good pass so passing is #1 to know. To learn how to control the ball get a volleyball and pass against the wall if you can't pass consistently then you're not controlling your pass
