How to make the high school volleyball team as a freshman?

  • This year I didn't make the middle school volleyball team. I think it was because the coaches didn't even know how to play, one of them didn't like me and because this is the only year I tried out. I went to the high school camp this summer and really learned a lot. How could I start training now to be able to get on the high school team? I love this sport. It's my life. I'm not going to quit. Ever. So don't give me answers like "You didn't make tit this year, you're not gonna make it next year.". I'm trying out irregardless. If you play(ed) volleyball in highschool, please help me!

    It depends, If the highschool your going to has a Freshman, J.V. or Varsity team my school has a freshman team so it doesnt matter what you do your going to play on the freshman team. Some people get called up to J.V. though I dont know, its also going to depend on what your team needs if they already have a good setter, you might want to work on your hits... And vice versa. Don't let them put you down like that! I have played volleyball for four years now, I am a senior. My freshman and sophomore year I was on the JV team, so I skipped the freshman level. I really recommend that you go to several camps. They are usually offered in the spring or the summer. Make sure you strengthen your skills before trying out for the team. You might even want to go to the weight room once in a while to tone up your muscles! On tryout day, you want to stand out. Don't wear something boring....wear something that is colorful and different. Maybe you could even wear your school colors? Remember to call the ball really loud, volleyball is a sport that needed a lot of communication between you and your teammates. If you shank a ball during a drill, don't put yourself down and say out loud "darn, I messed up," just get back in line and concentrate more next time! Do your best and try not to be so nervous!
