Is there any open gym volleyball in Waikiki area?

How can I condition for volleyball?

  • I am already planning my way back into the volleyball season in the summer. Last year i didn't prepare very well with staying in shape, eating healthy, and exercising after my club season (ended around march) so like three months of nothing! and this year i am not doing club.. background info: -I am a setter but sometimes DS (which is weird cause i am REALLY bad at passing) -i do want to condition that will help my vertical -going to be a junior in HS and i am reaching my goal for VARSITY this year! -I have a gym in my area but we cant set up nets (annoys me...) and with all the basketball players we have about 60 feet apart from each other to pepper but like ten feet to go side to side... and i usually have one friend cause there isnt too much room for more! What can i do to condition? run, bike isnt really what i want but more to practice volleyball while doing so.. if that makes sense. and also any volleyball drills with two people that we can do to last like two hours at the most? Thanks to everyone and have a merry christmas!! :)

Jump ropping will help your verticle. What my coach makes us do is jump on one leg for 1 minute over an elastic band (like chinese jump rope) then he will make us do 2 minutes and keep raising the elastic its intense. Then switch legs then do two legs. Tape out the heighth of a net on your wall or something and practice jumping and blocking over the tape. Do setting drills like have your friend stand somewhere in the court and practice her passing it to you and you setting it right to her without her having to move. Practice doing latterals, back peddling, jogging, and sprinting to stay in shape. Practice passing since you said you weren't so good at it. Go against a wall and aim for a certain spot each time to try to get accuracy, you can do that with setting too. Do pushups or lift some weights to increase your arm strength (it helps a lot) my coach would have us do up to 300 push up sit up and bow ups at practice (they're brutal cruel people, wed have four hour practices everyday). Line up across from your friend and have her pass it in the middle of you two, get there and pass or set it back to her. Then follow the ball to her and touch it then back pedal back to your spot. (That's a way for you to condition and get better at passing or setting at the same time) hope that helped! Good luck with varsity!

Jump rope, squat, and do those football drills where you step on each square quickly. (Like hopping quickly alternating legs.) I can't really think of any vertical drills you can do with 2 people, unless you do like a hitters vs. defence type drill where 3 hitters just hit for like an hour.
