How to practice for upcoming volleyball camp and tryouts?
-
I'm going into 9th grade and really want to make the freshman team at my high school. Volleyball camp starts tomorrow, and I'll meet the coach and they'll probably teach us the skills. I have some experience and know the basics, but I feel kind of unprepared. I know that a lot of people are trying out for volleyball, and some have played for a long time and are really good, especially the popular girls. How can I practice and get ready for tryouts and camp? Any pointers for making the team? Thanks! :)

Answer:
if volleyball camp starts tomorrow, dont hurt your musles tonight practing. at the practice, one thing that really makes coaches notice you is if you run in front of the pack.for bumping the ball, i wil give you these tips ~hit off your arms, not your wrists,it will go where you want it then. ~bend your knees! sometimes it seems really annoying, but it does really help! ~always call the ball nice and loud! try coming up with your own thing to say,no just mine. that way everyone knows who is getting the ball ~dont be afraid to dive! for diving,DONT go on your knees, that is a mistake most people make, roll on your side. even with kneepads it hurts and leaves bruises. ~dont swing your arms. bend your knees, and when the ball touches your arms, slowly come up. the ball will go where you want it then for setting,i will give you these tips ~when you set, your hands are not supposed to make a noise when they hit the ball. so you will know if you are doing that right. ~ make a triangle with your fingers. if you dont do that,it will be considered a lift. ~face your feet where you want the ball to go! unless you are back setting,it is key to do that. ~bend your legs and then slowly bring them up when the ball touches them. for serving,i will give these tips. ~keep you eye on the ball! many people overlook that step, and try to look cool. but it is key to a nice serve. ~swing your arm hard! one of my friends always swings it slow, and it NEVER makes it over.but when she started swinging faster, she started getting ace serves. ~ watch your feet. start your serve atleast one foot away from the line. i always used to step on the line, and that gives the other team a free point. ~cosentrate!! think about what you are doing, dont just wildly swing. if you take the time to think about what you are doing. i will give you these tips on hitting (my favorite part!) ~get your footing down right away! the correct footing is left, right, heel toe toe. if you start jumping before you get the footing, your hit is almost garenteed to be messed up! ~dont hit all of the time, try tipping about 1/4 of the time. it throws off the other team! thats all i can think about right now. if you have any other questions e-mail me! <33

• Here are some really good ones that i use to strengthen my core, abs, and legs for ski racing and lacrosse -wall sits (really strengthen the thighs so they are good for jumping. ) -up downs (where you start by standing, then jump, then fall into push-up position kind of kick your knees and bring them into your chest, then jump up and stand again)... -jumping over something (a stack of books). what you have to do is jump over and back over the thing on both feet 25 times. then side to side over the thing 25 times. Then front and back 25 times on one foot for each foot. This totally improves how high you jump. -In your yard you could stagger about 8 cones, 6 feet apart. like this kind of haha... the stars are the cones. * ____* * ____* and then start at the first cone or whatever you use. Sprint to the next cone, and totally breakdown (completely stop and go into athletic position, with both your knees bent) then sprint to the next cone...and so on. after you finish the row of cones, skip really strong and high back to the first cone and do them again. I hope I helped you! good luck!!!! I've always wanted to play volleyball for my high school team.

well, unlike the other answers, mines gonna be short and sweet. one big factor coaches look for is a good overhand serve. at our school,we divide the gym in half, and put 2 nets on each half.then we have to serve the ball over which is about 15 feet. then we play scrimmage games, too.mainly a good overhand is all yu'll need.good luck!
