Why is it so cold when you first get in the pool?

Can you swim in a chlorine pool when you first get your belly button pierced?

  • i want to get my belly button pierced in a few months but i also have swim team 3 times a week will my piercing get in the way of my swimming or will it get infected easier.. please help :) oh and how would i provent it getting snagged on anything?

    Contrary to another reply, chlorination dramatically reduces the chances of any form of infection but, it does not eliminate it. There are times when, despite there being plenty of free chlorine in the pool that the bacteria content of the pool is still unhealthy. So ... if you're going to get a piercing it would be inadvisable for you to swim in a PUBLIC pool for 3 or 4 days which is about when you can be confident that the wound you've had inflicted is sealed enough to restore the natural immunity created by your skin. The snagging thing is all up to you ... you're getting pierced and you're the one who wears your choice of clothes.

I think you have to stay out of the water for a certain amount of period (ask them if you get it pierced) until it heals to a certain point. Even though the chlorine kills bacteria, you're still going to swimming in a pool of water that has everybody's germs and stuff and not all of the bacteria is going to be killed. I think you should tape over to prevent it from getting snagged. I know, I reallyyy want mine pierced too but I lifeguard and teach swim classes every week.

The chlorination, if anything, will reduce the chance of an infection. It might cause inflammation, which can cause it to sting a bit, but not infection. The only thing it could be snagged on is your suit, unless you wear two-piece suits for whatever reason. There is a certain period of time in which you should stay out of the water after a piercing, but it's not that long.
