Why aren't people trying to ban swimming pools?
-
Swimming pools kill ten times more children than guns do, yet one of the big claims for banning guns is that kids are killed by them. So... why no ban on swimming pools? If it's all about the children, shouldn't we be far more interested in going after swimming pools than guns? At least first?

Answer:
What makes you think there aren't safety nuts trying to ban swimming pools? They've already succeeded in getting rid of thousands of diving boards in the USA.

They are not meant for harm. Children who drown in pools just don't know how to swim and they don't know that. Guns are made to harm others. Pools are not.
Brak!
this question is ridiculous. have you thought about what your asking?

Swimming pools are a leisure facility, guns are weapons. Swimming pools may kill 10 times more children, but I'm pretty sure guns kill a hell of a lot more people overall. The only time children die in swimming pools, is because of irresponsible parents so if we all thought like you, parents should be banned too. Banning swimming pools would highly affect a lot of peoples' lives. From olympians, to young children that go to a swimming lesson once a week. Swimming is a worldwide loved sport, guns are mechanic killers.
gleek.
A swimming pool is an area where people can exercise and practice swimming. Swimming is a sport beloved by many, and to take away swimming pools would be a huge controversy. Swimming is important, it trains the whole body and it can be therapeutic for some. Overall, it wouldn't be wise to ban them. That's why children are encouraged to learn how to swim at young age to prevent from drowning.

Omg horrible question D:, I LOVE swimming, why not ban beaches? ahhaha, but i can see where you're coming from and all. But swimming pools aren't meant to kill people.

If your statement is correct and swimming pools do in fact kill ten times more children than guns do, I believe it's due to lack of supervision of children in the water. I've been swimming for 9 years (since 5th grade) and have always had a coach on deck--never should anyone be swimming without any supervision. My junior year in high school there was a young boy who drowned in our school pool during his PE class. Regrettably this could have been prevented! It was due to his teacher's lack of supervision, and his peers as well. After that, my swim coach was very strict and even with the budget cuts she intended to have more than just two eyes supervising sixty girls on the swim team...she hired two other coaches. Swimming is supposed to be a sport, and healing for some; but always, always should there be supervision in case. I think that's all there is to it. Maybe because guns are more threatening because of the mass implication by the media that they are very dangerous is a reason why people take more precautions to supervise children having access to guns; and pool supervisions have yet to be taken seriously in a significant way yet. I really hope people do immediately to prevent children dying in such a preventable way.

I support the ban of neither. But having been a lifeguard for over four years and coming from a family of hunters, I can say that I support responsible action and use of each. Guns are good: they provide immediate safety and security, as well as a recreational outdoors pastime. Swimming pools are also good: they provide recreation, health, and fitness opportunities. But does that mean that we should be letting little kids play with guns, or using guns as toys? No. Likewise, we shouldn't be leaving children unattended in areas of water: a child can drown in inch-deep water. Better parenting, child supervision, and lifeguarding practices save lives.
