How do you save a drowning person.?

  • Say someone was drowing in a lake and it was your duty to save them. Name the steps you would do to going about doing so.

  • Answer:

    1. Contact emergency services. Either send someone to do it or do it yourself. Let the emergency services know the nature of the incident. 2. The best rescue is a shore/boat rescue where you throw a floation device or rescue rope to the person in distress. 3. If the person is too far away or a boat is not available, get in the water and take a floation device with you. Ideally, you should take one for you and one for the person in distress. 4. Upon reaching the person in distress, thrust the floatation device at them. If they are in panic mode, they will try to climb on you; therefore, thrust the item at them. 5. If the person in distress is non-responsive (i.e. floating there motionless), flip them over so they are face-up. If you are trained for in-water rescue breathing, check for breathing and give resuce breaths if necessary. Otherwise, tow toward the shore. 6. Provide CPR and first-aid if trained.

You would only jump in if you are trained for rescue, First step in ALL rescues is call or send someone to call 911, then use a boat if possible, if swimming, take a life jacket or life preserver along and don't jump in if you are in danger at all.
