How long did it take you to learn how to swim? Example weeks, months, years How long does it take you to learn?

  • how to swim? Did you go swim everyday or once a week to learn, and what was your time limit Example 1hr., 2hrs., etc. while you were learning how to swim, and how many weeks months years did it take you?

  • Answer:

honestly, it depends on the person and how badly you want to swim. it took me a good year to learn how to swim, and i'm still working on getting better. i've been swimming competitively for 8 years and playing water polo for 6. i learned how to swim in the summers, and would go 2..3 times a week. during the first summer, i learned how to swim and the following summers i worked on technique. then, i joined a team. it's definitely worth it.

It depends what age you are when you start to learn. For example, young children learn faster than adults but can't handle long lessons. Half an hour once or twice a week is enough. The best age to start is around three or four for formal lessons without a parent in the water. If the child goes to mother and baby swimming lessons before that, so much the better. If we define "swim" to mean once across the pool with no armbands, I have seen children learn in a term. This is pretty good going. I have also seen children take a year if they are scared of the water, reluctant to leave their parents and so on. It would take a couple of years of weekly lessons and perhaps family swimming during school breaks to be ready to swim competitively.

Well the thing is, you can't really just answer that. If you mean how long does it take you to learn how to not drown, the answer is not very long, but it also depends how often you went and practiced or took the lessons or whatever. Also, you can't really learn how to swim entirely like, ever. Thats why you are always thinking of ways to make your stroke more efficient. So I don't realy understand your question.

If you do intense swimming like I did (say with olympic coaches) then you can learn pretty quickly (I mastered everything within six months) and I have seen some of my friends at the same place learn how to do a pretty good stroke in less than 4 hours. It also depends on how much effort you put into it and how well your teacher teaches and how much feedback they give.
