How to do well in 1500m run?

Is there an easy way to convert a distance swam to a distance run? I.e., swimming 1500m is like running what?

  • I'm somewhat new to swimming, but I am a longtime runner. I am exhausted after my swim workouts, so I'd like to have an idea of what a comparable run would have been just so I know where I am. So, for example, if I swam 1500m today, was that equivalent to doing a 3 mi run, a 6 mi run? Any help on determining equivalent distances run would be welcomed!

  • Answer:

Figure out how many calories you burnt swimming, and then measure the distance you have to run to burn an equal amount of calories. good luck.

I'm not positive about caloric intake, which would probably a better measure of the conversion factor, but as far as time goes, it is about 1:4 for elite swimmers to elite runners. Also, depending on how you swim your heart usage could be greater or less than this ratio.

Figure out how many calories you burn during that 1500m swim (try using a calorie chart - find it on the web) and then estimate the distance you need to run to burn the same amount.

I generally think of it as being 4 to 1, running to swimming. I would convert your 1500m swim to 6000m running.
