Im 15, and i cant swim a stroke. Im really embarrassed :( Where can I learn how to swim properly?

It sounds weird, but ive never really learnt how to swim. I probably cant float, cant swim a stroke at all. Im sick of not being able to go out to the beach with friends, I havent told anyone I cant swim. Where can I learn to swim without anybody really seeing me? How long will it take to learn :(

Answer:
hey dont feel bad, imlike that too but i went to learn and basically the first thing you need to do is feel comfterable in the water because if youre scared of the water forget it. also paractice holding your breath underwater. then try to float only if you feel really comfterable (but keep in mind to do thid in a pool where you can stand up) start with a front float then a back float. adn then you can go take lessons at some kind of recreation place thingy and when you take lessons its best if you use goggles because you will be more comfterable now that you can see underwater and your eyes wont sting from the bleach. hope i helped and feel free to ask more questions if you want

Pshh. I'm 18 and I can't swim. It doesn't bother me. There is nothing embarrassing about not being able to swim unless you're a fish. Since it's safe to assume that you're not a fish there is no need to swim.

Hey, i know how you feel. My 11 yr-old sister can swim better than me... =(. But it don't really matter! You dont gotta be embarrassed just cus' you don't know how to swim! We went to a water park for my year-end honors trip. I told my friend Emily i couldn't swim, she didn't say nutin'! She understood perfectly. Well point is, i am not popular at all, the popular people are jealous of me and my stupid self, lol. And I have more friends than the popular peeps and I don't even know how to swim. Hope this helps! - Taytay (the Kyuubi Spirit!)

The YMCA has adult swim classes for anyone over the age of 14. Many Ys have the classes in the evening to accommodate working adults. If you find it difficult to afford lessons, the Y can help out with that, too. They never turn anyone away who can't afford to pay.

i dont know where you live, but i live on the gulf coast, and when we go to the beach, we dont swim at all. we get in the water and walk around in like waist to chest deep water, but we never really swin. but yeah check out your local health club that has pools and ask to set up a lesson w/ a swim coach or something, ymca will work too.

In some areas you can get a private swim lesson, where it would be just you and an instructor.
