Does it hurt your eyes swimming in salt water pools?

• i've always swam in chlorine pools, but next year the hotel we are considering going to in tenerife has two salt water pools. i know from past experience from going to the beach that it hurts like a bi*ch to get salt water in your eyes and even wearing goggles its inevitable! plus the taste is not the most pleasant. also, isn't chlorine put in pools to kill dirt and things? like incase some kid wee's in the pool? would salt water pools do the same job? so i was just wondering if it hurts your eyes swimming in salt water pools etc ( :

  A "salt water pool" is just a pool that uses electricity to release chlorine from salt (aka sodium chlorine or NaCl) that has been dissolved in the water. They are still using chlorine to sanitize the pool. The salt level is extremely low. The pool will likely be around 3,000 ppm salt, human tears are around 9,000 ppm, and the ocean has 35,000 ppm. You might be able to taste the salt. Some can, some can't. It shouldn't hurt your eyes to swim in a chlorine pool. If it does, the problem isn't the chlorine level, or the salt level, but the pH level. The pH can be wrong in either a salt or traditional pool.
