How to flip on a diving board?

How deep does a in-ground pool have to be to have a a diving board?

  • We are about to get a house that has an inground pool but it has a cover over the pool and has a diving board. My question is how deep does a pool usually have to be in order to have a diving board? Thanks

  • Answer:

from my Own experience at several different pools, both rec and competitive, you need at least 12 feet for a safe board. Here's why: -Think about the biggest height of anyone that could use your board. around a little over 6 feet. so first part: 6 feet -We all know you don't lose velocity when your head is under water, and especially with Flat dives, you can go pretty far before you slow down enough to head back to the surface. If it was 8 or nine feet, a LOT of people diving at your house could possibly break there noses, get concussions, etc. I've seen that happen AT 12 foot pools, but imagine the risk if it was four feet shallower. Nation tourneys usually have around 16 foot deep pools, but for rec I would say the ABSOLUTE lowest is ten feet. best of luck in your house hunting. -Holden

8 feet with a slope ratio of 3/1 that starts 6' from the back wall. that is for every 3' linear feet the slope cannot be great than 1' vertical foot. http://www.divingboardsafety.net/Standard-inground-pools.pdf

12 feet (I think), but it's safe to dive without a board in 8 or 9 ft. It's not smart to have it too much shoallower, you'll brain yourself if you dive. There are usually diving boards in 12 foot deep pools (at least the public ones I've been to) if you're only doing racing dives then it can be shallower. I think, I'm basing all of this on public pools and signs in public pools. (When the "no diving" signs end, etc.)

Actually the answer is 8 feet but the board size would only be a 6 foot board. If the pool is deeper then the board can be larger but there are strict requirements for pool builders when it comes to installation of diving boards.

It depends on how old the pool is. Usually they call for at least 12 feet these days.

8 feet minimum; that's what ours was, anyway. You don't want to bang your head on the bottom.

Um, I think 8 to 9 feet.
