What to expect at a lifeguard and swim instructor job interview?
-
Hi! So, I'm a qualified NLS lifegaurd and swim instructor, I went to the screening and applied to this pool, who of which called back requesting an interview!! This is my very first job AND job interview so, I'm super excited, but nervous too. I was wondering what to expect as regards to questions. What will they ask me? And are there any good questions that I should ask them? I'm still on the fence about asking about my pay. But I'm not too too sure. Please help! Thanks :)

Answer:
Just be yourself. From your application they will know it's your first job and expect you to be a little nervous. Smile and make eye contact. They will probably ask why you want to work there and what your long term plans are as well as what days and hours you can work. Usually you know when applying for a job what the pay will be. They will go over it with you if they offer you the position. Since this is your first job there wont be any need to bring it up because there's nothing to negotiate.

At my lifeguarding interview, they asked my questions like... Why did you chose this job? Do you have any experience handling young kids? They gave me a few theoretical scenarios as well. It was a little hard because of how ihad to think on each of them but it was a breeze! Good luck!

Hi! I'm actually an instructor/guard as well as an NLS instructor, and I've interviewed at a few different locations. They're goin to ask you fairly job-specific questions, like "tell me about a time when you were under a lot of pressure and explain how you responded." They will most likel ask you some questions relating more to the customer service side of the job as well, such as "Have you ever dealt with a person or customer who was non-compliant or rude, and how did you deal with them?" Because lifeguarding has such a high turnover rate (people don't lifeguard long, usually a couple years), you are likely to get hired. So they will surely ask you about your availability, and that would be a perfect time to ask what they pay. There's no shame in doing that, it's information you need Good luck!
