How to become a better swimmer?

How can I become a better swimmer in a month with out a pool?

  • I want to be a more stronger and better swimmer...with out a pool, how can I do that

  • Answer:

I have several suggestions and if you follow them, you will be in almost as good a shape as if you remained in the water. First you need to begin a strength & plyometrics program. 2x a week for 45 minutes. Work your arms (bench/pushups/pullups/curls) Work your legs (squats -front, side, alternating, calf raises) Olympic lifts if you know them are also very helpful, hang cleans, RDL (works out your lower back for stronger dolphin kicks), bent over row, snatch, front squat. This website has full explanations of lifts and graphics on how to perform them. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/PowerExercises.html You also need to work your abs/core. 3-4x a week of 400+ reps. Some of the suggestions from this site are very helpful. It tells how to strengthen your core and has a link to 17 good ab exercises. http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/bestabexercises/a/betterabs.htm You need a cardiovascular workout. Run 2x a week 3 miles Bike 2x a week 5 miles.

ok. sorry, but you won't really be able to become a betters swimmer, but you can keep in shape and get stronger. just go the gym regularly and work each part of body: go on the stairmaster to work your legs and do the treadmill to help with cardio. definately head to the weight room as well. and definately go on enough machines (the simple ones, not the scary ones that look like they could take off your head) to work each and every muscle. you can't become a better swimmer without a pool, but if you stay in shape and build up muscle, when you do get back into a pool, you'll get good a lot faster! :)

Buy rubber stretching bands. I use them for synchronized swimming. Step on one end, and hold the other end in a hand. Use it for biccep and tricep workouts. Also do lots of crunches and pushups.

Dry-land. Like crunches, wall-sits, lunges, and lots and lots of running

I've coached swimming for almost 30 years ... I was an NCAA finalist in 1970 and 71 ... I've got a masters degree in physiology ... after all of that time and education I can assure you ... you can't.

ummm yeah like a bunch of other ppl... you can't become a better swimmer, but you can become stronger by doing squats, jumps (helps w/ dives), sit ups, push ups , and calf exercises (go up on your toes, then down again repeatedly). so... you can't have better technique but you will be stronger.
