Whats your personal preference on swimming teams?!?
-
I'm 13 years old, a girl, and in 8th grade right now. This year, is my last year of cheerleading since i dont want to do it in the highschool because i want to do band instead. I need something to do, thats kind of competitive, can get me in shape and it a whole lot of fun. I want to do swimming really bad, and i'm ready to commit to all of the hard work and time that swimming teams take. This year, I'm planning on taking lessons at our local YMCA, and next year in highschool, i plan on joining the swim team. Before joining, I want to see what everyone has to say about swimming teams, and the hard work and dedication to swimming. What are your opinions?

Answer:
Its tough as everyone says. Swimmers are the fittest athletes at most high schools and there are multiple reasons why. They are extremely competitive, hard workers, and the most dedicated athletes. All of the successful swimmers have these qualities and it rubs off to other swimmers. The coaches will push you hard and see how far you can go until you break. With all the pain comes with good things. Most swim teams are like a huge family and they are all really close. It must be the weird nature of our sport that makes swimmers so unique. Never in my life have I ever seen any team so close like a swim team. You learn alot of valuable things in life on a swim team. Swim lessons help you but you learn a ton more being on the team. Be prepared for a tough but rewarding year.

well swimming is not something you can just decide to do on day so yes train a little at the Y so you are physically fit and ready to swim the workout the coach has planned. As for dedication some swim meets are on saturdays and can go from 8 am to 4 pm so essintially your losing any saturday you have a meet on.
My name doesn't concern you
Lots of work. It would take up most of your time but you loose A LOT of lbs and get fit like really fast. The people are really awesome :) I went to the YMCA too to learn how to swim but they don't teach you enough. It's not enough time to try out for a team and they take forever to teach you the techniques (In my experience since my school is super competetive) Try out! You're going to have fun! Good luck :)
