Can you practice surfing in a swimming pool?

Swimming or Indoor Track?

  • Here's the situation: I had a minor surgery done about a month ago, and the doctor said the incisions should be healed in about 4 weeks, so I would be able to swim after that. That meant I was only missing about a week and a half of swim practice. I went back to the doctor's today and he said since they were not completely healed and still draining, I needed to wait 2 more weeks in order to avoid infection from the pool water. Our first meet is next week and I will be missing 3 total meets since I have to wait 2 weeks. After those 2 weeks when I can swim again, I will only have one day to practice before we have another meet the next day. If I swim I will have really sucky times due to the lack of practice. On the other hand, because I'm allowed, I could run indoor track instead of swimming. I'm interested because I run cross country and outdoor track. This is my school's first year offering indoor track. We can't actually compete as a team, but we can run for time. There's only a few guys who are interested, and no other girls that I know of. Practice hasn't started yet because all the guys who want to do it play football, and our team is in the state playoffs, so they still have football. I'm pretty sure we will have practice at our school, but we're responsible for our own transportation to the meets. The first meet for indoor track isn't until January. I shouldn't be too out of shape for running because cross country ended a little over a month ago, and I will have time to train before the first meet. It's a tough decision. I was devastated when the doctor said two more weeks because I was so excited to get back to swimming. It's my junior year and I will be disappointed if I don't get to swim with my seniors one last year. I've also been swimming since 4th grade. But, I'm afraid that this hold up on practicing will affect my entire season, and I won't be able to qualify for districts because of it. Indoor track would be great to get me in shape for the outdoor season. And also I won't have to wait to exercise; I can go running tomorrow if I want to. But I'm a little intimidated. First of all, as said before, I've never ran indoor. We'd go to meets with AAA schools, and I'm sure the competition is rough. Along with this, being the only girl interested, it'd be hard training with all the guys (I was the only girl for cross country my first two years, and survived that, but still...im scared. haha.) I love running and swimming. If I had it my way, I would be in the pool tomorrow. But that's not allowed...so help me out, and give me your opinion on my situation. Thanks in advanced.

  • Answer:

I think that you should run until your allowed to swim to keep your body active. And maybe you can skip the meet that you would only have 1 practice for. After that, you can practice extra hard for your next meet It would take a lot of hard work, but I think you should stick with swimming unless you really cant get your times back up. Good Luck!

Personally...I like swimming better, but sometimes that sport gives you unwanted bulk in unfortunate areas ( I got really big muscly thighs, lol) Thats all I have to say...haha

why not just run the track practices until you can swim that way you'll be in shape physically at least, if you need a certain amnt of practices to participate in the meets ask your swim coach if he can count the track practices since you're injuried.
