Can I camp anywhere on Catalina Island?

  • I am going to Catalina Island in the future and am wondering if I have to stay in the camp grounds or can I get away with camping on a random beach? Thanks.

    Hi, Nathan...Bob Rhein with the Catalina Island Conservancy here. There are several beautiful campgrounds on Catalina Island that you will enjoy. I suggest Little Harbor campground. It is on the other side of the Island right on the beach with excellent surf! Check out all the great camping sites on the Island by visiting this website: http://www.catalinaconservancy.org/index.php?s=visit&p=campsites The Catalina Island Conservancy is the largest land trust in California and all are welcome to explore the beautiful, rugged interior of Catalina. In order to protect the rare and sometimes endangered plants and animals that are found on Catalina and no where else in the world, we would ask that you camp in one of the campgrounds you'll find listed. My advice to you is to start planning early and make sure you arrange transportation for yourself. There are no rental cars available on the Island. Good luck and enjoy your camping experience.
