For legal purposes, because sky-diving is such a high-risk activity, most places will not allow you to jump if you're under the age of 18. At 29, they made me sit through a video on how neither I nor any member of my family will ever be allowed to take any sort of legal action whatsoever for up to 21 years following my death should any sort of accident, injury, or illness - including death - occur as a result of my decision to jump out of a plane and fall to the earth; then they made me read through 10 pages of small-print legal paperwork, including a court case in which a plaintiff tried suing a jump company for his debilitating injuries incurred as a result of negligent jumping and lost. These guys are very serious. They're taking a risk by bringing you up into their plane, and they want to make sure they can stay in business. If you're under 18, that complicates things even more. You might be able to find a jump company that will allow minors to jump with parental consent, but the cost to jump might be significantly higher. Do a search online, or call companies and ask. If they don't allow it, ask if they know of anyone who does. If you've never been jumping (and it sounds like you haven't), then you won't be allowed to jump on your own, anyway. You'll have to jump tandem, which means you have a company jumper literally strapped to your back, and the chute is strapped to his/hers. He/she will be responsible for properly operating the chute. You'll still have to practice proper landing, since you'll both be hitting the ground together. In order to jump on your own, you have to log a certain number of verified and supervised jumps, and be certified to jump solo. I believe the cost for a jump license is something like $1000.
