How To Join Tnca Team?

Help on convincing my parents to let me join the swim team?

  • I want to join the swim team this fall. My parents are not exactly very understanding with this idea. I need some help with convincing them. First off what I need help on is: There are a lot of practices. Which means I need to be drove up to the pool on average 4-5 times during the weekdays. (No option of carpooling yet, nobody by me is on the team) 2ndly Cost Every session is about $150-250 + gear 3rdly Weekend meets. I know those are carpooled but still.... 4thly Am I too old to join the team? In the fall I will be a junior. I have been talking with a person on the team and they say that they get swimmers of all ages and all different abilitys. and 5thly I have asthma. It is so much better now that I am 16 but I had a problem with it when I was like 8 and taking soccer. My Mom doesn't seem to forget that. I really want to join the team. Swimming is the only thing that I really enjoy doing. Please any help or experience would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

Say to them, "I really want to join the team. Swimming is the only thing that I really enjoy doing!" Also, try doing extra things for them or making the money up to them yourself. And focus on your schoolwork. Make sure to get good grades and listen to your parents.

show them you are devoted and determined to do what you can despite your illness's. Show them your grades are up and you are strong and well ENOUGH to at least show some movement adn activity adn progress.

Well..swimming definately works you out. Make new friends. It's can be really fun even though it can be really hard. As for the costs...it may cost a lot initially but your suit and goggles should last you a long time, but you can't do much about the session fees. And it's one more thing you can say you participated in when you apply to college.

i like to swim

Tell your parents this is something you really want to do. It will look good on college applications that you're involved in extra activities. Also if you're really good, you might be able to get scholarships to college!! If cost is an issue, offer to do things around the house to earn part of the money, cut lawns, or go to your neighbors and see if they need help around their house so you can help earn money . As far as carpooling- is there a bus route you can take? Try to have a game plan that involves inconveniencing them the least way possible, as I'm sure they're concerned with their work schedule interfering with your swim practices. If your mom is concerned about your asthma, talk to your swim coach about this and see what they have to say- or even your family doctor. It might help you. Good luck!

dude, tell them that u want to show off those awsome abs =] ahahha, ik wat u mean about all those practices. my parents are constantly complaining. now, u're not to old to join. butttt, if u're joining the team at u're local Y, i'm sure that they won't let u compete u're first year. they're probably gonna make u do andurance traing u're first year. i've been fdoing summer league since 5th grade, and right now i'm doing endurance training at the Y so that i can try out for the sharks next year. this year so far has made a world of a difference on my strokes, and my times are gonna be awsome for summer league(ik, i can't spell). but uh, is this team in the summer, school yr, or all yr long? if it's summer, they can't complain about driving. IT'S SUMMER!!! lol. uhmmm...schoole yr-my grades might have slipped a little....lol. shhhhh(that midmarks report will stay hidden :p) most kids on the team have athsma...and an inhaler in every color of the rainbow, lol the price u listed really isn't that bad. i live in Jersey, price is MUCH higher ugh, i hated soccer too. swimming is wayyyyy different but yea, practice today was fun, because we took the lanelines out at the end, and did this drill called... idr wat it was called but it was neat, and we practiced breast and fly turns. the seniors swim was on one side of the pool and junior 2, 3, and highschool clinic ws on the other...my turns are now soooo much better. lol. but yea, u realllliiiii want to join the team to show off u're abs. and if u don't currently have any, u soon will. mmk. tell u're mom that. toodles!

for the health aspect, swimming is the best for you. i've had allergies forever and when i was younger a heart murmur. i swam for school for 3 years along with many years of outside of school teams. i never once fell ill or had any health concerns. with swimming you don't have to worry about allergies because of the closed environment. i have a fiend who had asthma and his parents' never let him get into swimming bc of the same fear and now he regrets it. it really helps your body and builds muscle. i don't know much about asthma but know countless teammates who swam and were amazing after heart surgeries and with asthma. definitely join, it's an amazing experience! :0]

you should do it tell them you will get a summer job to pay for the money it dosent matter if you have asthma all kids do this no matter if your a jr or not.

Well.. Get either your mum or dad alone or maybe even both and tell them that you want to join the swim team and give them the benefits of it and NOT the doubts such as it will increase your stamina and it will be good for yourself. Before you do this, do something for them, even something simple like cleaning the dishes or moeing the lawn. This will soften them up when it comes to you asking them. Hope this helps.. :)

Mr Daniel

I had the same problem not to long ago, but that was trying to convince my parents I could do both Club swimming & HS soccer. I drew them a little timetable of how the carpooling and stuff would work, and proved to them it was a good commitment. I also told them it'd make me stronger and that I'd hate them forever if they didn't let me =p.
