Why do my ears hurt if I exercise when it's cold?

Why do my ears hurt when im swimming?

  • why do my ears hurt when im swimming? ik its because of the water pressure but even when i equalize the pressure they hurt because they get water in them! is it some allergic reaction to the chlorine or what??? its not the pressure, but they hurt just like when ive got swimmers ear but as soon as i come out of the water and empty the remaining water out, they stop untill i go under water again! ive managed to get a "air pocket" in my ears, but as soon as i get arms length underwater, the pocket bursts and water rushes in, causeing them to hurt. ive tried ear plugs but they dont stay in and are a menace. what should i do????

  • Answer:

You may have what is called "swimmers ear" I swam competition for about 15 years and as a child I'd get it. Years ago, and I mean MANY moons ago, the Dr had my mom mix 50/50 alcohol and white vinager. Put about two drops in each ear and it would clear it up. If it''s raw in your ear it may burn a little. As a scuba instructor I'd highly advise you against using ear plugs if your planning on going under water. By doing so you create an additional "inner" ear that you can't equilize and it can cause damage. Hope you get better. Check with a Dr.
